Got the two sides hanging and now need to get the hitch bolts in. Then I'll go back one at a time and add my blue loctite to each bolt before tightening them down good. I did use the spacers.

On a side note, I found the 3rd gen bumper easier to figure out and hang. Go figure.

A little solvent and a blast of air could help clear your bolt holes.

The thread, or lack there of, on the bolts could be the reason for the extra washers and the smaller spacers, much easier to use that spacer the way Warthog did instead of stacking washers.

Okay, got it figured out. I ended up with 3 surplus washer plates (as CBI calls them) but here are a bunch of pictures that I couldn't find on the net to show where all this stuff goes.

Spacer plate between frame rail and bumper

This shows spacer plate above bumper and spacer plate below bumper on forward most bolts. These were the 8mm bolts from CBI but I found a little force on the wrench and they went right in. One smaller washer on these two bolts.

Here are the two bolts inside the bumper that go into the hitch. Use factory bolts and add two larger washers. Both 1/2" washers but one is smaller outside diameter than the other if you look.

Two 12mm bolts from CBI that go into rear most part of bumper attaching to the frame. These also got a stack of two of the 1/2" washers.

This is a side view of those 8mm bolts I mentioned earlier. You can see only one 5/16 washer.

This is looking into the holes on the outside of the bumper by the hitch. It's factory bolts with a stack of two 1/2" washers as mentioned before.

Hopefully these help the next guy figure this out a little easier than I did. LOL :doh:





Now I'm headed back to remove bolts one at the time and add some blue loctite to keep them in place. Then I'll probably tackle the swing arm next. I'm going to have to tackle the muffler too as mine is hitting the rear of the bumper. Not sure if I'll create a spacer of some sort for the bracket or just go get it bent out to the side. Will circle back on that one later today or tomorrow.

Yeah, the instructions make reference to stuff but leave a lot to the imagination. Unfortunately, I sometimes need the picture roadmap on this stuff or it takes me half a day to figure out whats what.

The tasks I've done in the past that had a great picture roadmap created by a prior members install have really saved me some time. Perfect examples are doing the seals, bearings and manual hub conversions on my 3rd gen. By looking at other members detailed pictures I was able to figure it out and follow along almost without any writing. :thumb:




On a side note, I don't think my Radflo 2.5 rear suspension sunk at all so far with the bumper going on. I didn't measure right before starting but I'm not seeing any drop so far. More weight to add though with the swing and spare so we will see but so far so good

On a side note - impressed you tackled it on your own. This is how most of my truck "mods" happen also.

The beauty of doing it alone is working on your own time, starting stopping, taking pictures, asking questions on the forum. Working with a partner I would feel pressured to just get it done.

Okay, stopped and made myself a nice cold grey goose martini straight up with a lemon twist (in a plastic cup though) LOL


Since earlier post, I mounted the hdpe landing pad. Used a file to smooth the sharp edges and corners a bit first. Little blue loctite on the threads.

Got the bronze bushings ready. Used some WD40 and wiped out the inside of the swing arm tube.

Using a 3lb sledge and a scrap piece of hdpe I got the bushings hammered in on each end of the tube.

Used some WD40 to clean the spindle up and then applied a light frosting of White Grease.

Dropped the swing arm tube onto the spindle. Had to use a 2x4 and 3lb sledge to get it down the final few inches but it's on there and ready to go now.

Last item I did before stopping for pictures and update was to install the thumb screw into the folding table to hold it up.

Crimping terminals on the ends of the cables for table supports

Well poop. Anyone following this make sure to measure the table support cables before crimping the terminals on the end. I just hurried and assumed they were cut to fit but they are way too long. Now I've got to try to come up with another terminal so I can cut this one to fit and then recrimp a new terminal on it. :fish:

Still have the cables just a tad too long and had to improvise on the one terminal since it only came with 4, but it will work for now. I'll pick up a handful of extra terminals later and shorten them by just the length of the terminal. That should do it.

4 bolts hold on the latch. The threads are already in the swing arm so no nuts on this one.

The potential of doing a rear is why I haven't purchased rear springs yet and am considering spacers until I put a bumper and need heavier springs than my original plan.

spare tire hanging. Need to go get it swapped over to the matching FN rim though.

Latch working like a charm. Like this a million times better than the screw pin my 3rd gen had.

bolts for hi-lift in place and ready to go. Just need to get another hi-lift as I left the other one on my 3rd gen when I sold it as part of the deal.

Lastly, everything installed except the tag light and the trim for the factory bumper after I cut it. Will tackle the cutting tomorrow and get that back on, and then I'm down to the tag light.

Anyone think some Rigid Dually D2's with Wide beam would be okay in the rear bumper? I had planned to use these up front and get some diffused or flood beams for back but since I already have these it would save some funds.

Just curious if the beam might be too much for the rear.
