I've had my ride for over a year now, and still on the honeymoon!! Love this ride! My wife and I spent this afternoon going up some back roads and had a great time!

Well I woke up late today and with a headache so I decided to do something easy. I've been saving the deckplate mod for a day like today so here it is.

A little Dremel action a hole saw woulda been easier but I didnt have one and I wasnt going to the damn store today.

You can get a brand new molded carpet (aftermarket of course) for around $250, maybe look into that? The only thing is it doesn't have any cuts or holes, so you'll have to lay it out and go crazy with a box cutter but it will be custom molded to the floor

The more I look into this the more pissed I get. I remember starting to research replacing the carpet and someone said "The carpet is $700" in some random post so I never looked further...grrrr.

Try heavy duty carpet cleaner and a pro-machine thats my 2cents.

It actually came out pretty good and I'm happy with the results. I thought I took an after shot but cant find it...The thing has a few holes in it and other worn out places so replacing is gonna happen eventually. For now I've got a black set of floor mats from an old caddy of mine that actually fit very nice

I've been looking at those and also some Cooper AT2...I think. Cooper has a factory in town so I'll probably go with those unless a great craigslist set come up.

I guess I will be rebuilding these by the end of the summer or maybe it will give me something to do Christmas break. Any suggestions on what type of reboot kit?

Got the diff fluid changed and put in the relay so I dont have a fast blinker anymore. Now headed into town to find a harness for this radio.


I tilted her up to get all that fluid out. Its was black!

I read a few write ups on this and was happy to say that both my fill and drain plug came out with little effort. The fill plug was 10mm hex but the drain plug was 19mm nut.

So the harness looks kinda strange to me. I'm not sure why there are two. Any tips on the install? I havent done a stereo install this big since 1990 and it seems a few things have changed :clap2:

Ok...I'm halfway through the summer and a little over half way done with my build plan. This week is going to be short as well as next week because my son is a badass baseball player and we are going to state!

Plan for this week:

-trans cooler install + drain, purge and fill the tranny with new fluid just like these guys BFAD B&M and Dropping the pan
-reinstall bumper with winch attached
-install new headlights
-hook up the radio

I should be able to hook up the winch and get back started on the seats after the state tournament...I did get it clocked thanks to Clocking a winch

oh yeah and i gotta fix this too...

Thanks and thanks! I've really been getting on it even though I've been distracted and keep getting interrupted. I took off the transmission pan today and let the whole thing drain. I pretty much finished up the cooler and everything went just as BFAD said it would except he didnt mention how much a pain in the ass the hose clamps are to tighten. Picts later or tomorrow, I'm headed to get a few beers!

UPDATE:

I'm here in longview Texas for my sons state championship tourney. We play one game a day until Tuesday so i drove the runner, packed a tool box, and am using the downtime to finish a few things up.

Winch question: i had to install the winch (badlands 9000) backwards and was going to unspool it so it feeds out of the bottom. I was wondering do i do it like this?

I'll also be working on the radio...picts when i get back to a real computer.

Also, to all my East TX people. Anyone recommend a junkyard near longview/Kilgore? I'm staying at Lake Cherokee in Lakeport.

I'd be careful running the winch in reverse for forward as wouldn't that mean that you would then be running against the brake full time and cause possible heating issues?

I posted that prematurely...and edited my question.

I haven't unspooled it yet, but i did install it with the motor on the right when facing the vehicle. I did this because i wanted the battery hook ups closer to the battery. I really don't want to turn it around but i also really don't want a dangerous/useless piece of machinery on the front of my runner. I know there's gotta be a way to make this work, i just can't wrap my brain around it...

On another note. This is my first road trip since the new suspension, bushings, etc and i have to say that i am very happy with the way everything rides and the whole set up feels great! I probably need a little more weight in the back but all i can say is wow! Since the transmission flush/cooler install i can't feel it shift under normal driving conditions. If i stomp on it yeah, but it still feels right.

Well the baseball tourney turned out great. Even though we got 2nd place I was so proud of my boy who saved the last game. 2 outs, 2 strikes, last inning, one runner on base and he hit a triple to the fence! Inches away from a walk off home run!

Now that I am home after this fun and exciting trip......it's time to pack up and head to Gulf Shores Alabama for a week of sun and fun on the beach. My goodness this summer is going by so fast...

Well I'm back from vacation...kinda. Should be back on it Monday, but in the mean time this is what I have done lately.

I almost used the gasket that came with the new filter but it sucked...

Trans cooler pretty much installed. I changed all the fluid while I did this. I followed BFAD to the tee.

As it turns out, the guy who put the crappy aftermarket system in just cut all the wires and twisted and electrical taped everything together...no harness at all! So basically I did the same except with butt connectors and crimpers. I think I need to reground my amp and find another acc for the hot on the radio otherwise it almost sounds great, but it looks awesome. I love the clean interior lines of the early 3rd gens.

Hey guys. Been lurking a creeping on the forums while I await my next stint of free time. I'll be moving over Thanksgiving so I will probably be knocking a bunch of stuff out over Christmas.

Need to do:

A) Purchase remaining parts for cup holder mod. I still need ebrake and well.

B) I've figured out that my CV axles may not be installed correctly. When I put them in initially I thought that they just didnt seem to be in all the way...easy fix just gotta do it.

C) Drain/Fill Transfer case fluid.

D) I think I may have too much tranny fluid in the thing after the tran cooler mod so I am going to drain the pan and fill it back with the required amount.

E) Front bumper still needs to be tweaked. The winch is installed but not in the way I want it and it seems the bumper is off center a little bit.

F) Aussie Locker...

G) Front and rear mudflaps need to be painted and reinstalled. Will have to cut up the front ones.

H) Projector Retrofit. I have all the parts and tried this mod once with no success. I will try again but with a little more patience...

I) Remove and repaint roof rack.

J) Install seat...I still havent given up hope on these but if you know anyone who wants some 4th gen seats...I may have a pair for sale.

K) Paint wheels.

Need to buy:

A) Tires: looks like I am going to go with 285 75 16 Coopers but wont have the money for a few more months.

B) Lights: Going to start with 2 Hella 500 and HID mod them. I have an old HID kit for a Caddy that I think will work.

C) LED interior kit

D) CB Radio

E) Emblems for the rear hatch

F) Panhard drop kit or adjustable bar.

I am sure that the "Need to Buy" list is never going to be completed...

I love the hill country. I teach Texas History and gotta find a way to get a field trip out to the ol Edwards Plateau.

Busy day and I got interrupted but I did get the axle nut off and installed the Satoshi grill.

is the "TOYOTA" emblem off of a FJ cruiser? I've tossed aroudn the idea of a satoshi mod but this is the first one i like.

I think I ordered it from camelback Toyota for an old land cruiser. I'll have to look it up for ya to make sure which one. I'm for sure it wasn't from an FJ Cruiser though.
