cooling fan replacement

Hey all,

I'm curious if anyone happens to know an odd bit of info about the T1819 head-unit, specifically, about the cooling fan.

I finally did an install of my T1819, and I loved it! Key word, loved. That is, it was great until I had the unit running long enough for the cooling fan to kick in. That's when I found out the fan itself was on it's last legs, with the fan blades wobbling, hit the fan frame, stalling out, restarting, and continuing with no remedy in sight apart from a replacement.

I yanked the HU, broke it down to allow removal of the fan, and typed it the only number on it, only to find that the part it pulls up (a Pioneer part #CXM1425) does exist, but is $52, not in-stock/available anywhere, and no actual specs re: the fan can be found.

I have found numerous sources of a replacement 35mmx35mmx10mm fan, but my questions are as follows:
- has anyone ever replaced a fan on this/similar unit? If so, where did you source your fan?
- the fans I have found are available in 12V or 5V, and while I can usually stumble around a multimeter to figure out big issues, the HU is in pieces and I don't know what to check. What's the likelihood this power in the HU has been stepped down to 5V?
- I plan on choosing a brushless version if possible, since it seems that's what the original is. Do those tend to be quieter? Some motors are listed as "quiet" or "low noise", but I'm not sure where that comes from. I would think I would would want as quiet as possible so long as it's moving enough air to keep things cool.

I need to replace the Fan in my one T1819 also. I'm pretty sure they are 12v. I was going to buy one with the same measurements and install it. Never got around to it yet. It only gets noisy in winter which is just around the corner. It's installed in my S series Saturn and real easy to remove/install compared to the 97 4Runner.

I've got a quick question for you guys. If I have an FRS parts vehicle, should I pull some anything else from behind the head unit or would it all be useless so I should just grab the head unit itself?

I'd just pull the head unit. If it has XM pull that module and its antenna and cabling to the head unit.

Oops! Forgot to add an update. I ended up getting a replacement fan and swapping it in. I never got any advice re: 12V vs. 5V units, so I opted to start with a 12V. I figured either it would be underpowered, and would then try a 5V option, or it would work and be fine. the 12V seems to be working fine! It's definitely got a noticeable noise, but it's subtle and drone-like enough that it's easy to get use to. I may try finding an alternative that is quieter, but I don't care enough right now, especially since the unit and all relative functions are up and running.

Next up is finding a writeup that I can follow to strip the dash/A-pillars/headliners to get the BT mic installed near the rearview mirror. Might be a winter project!

Ive got a Scion t1819 in my 2005 nonJBL 4runner thanks to all the good instructions here. Great sound.

What do I need to add "factory" satellite I can control from the t1819 head unit?

You will need the factory SAT module and the antenna and the cabling between the module and your radio.

Joined the forum just to ask you if you got your answers. I have the same radio I put in my 2006 xB with the same issue. I havent taken it all apart yet but almost ordered a 40mm fan until I read that you believe it's a 35mm which I didn't know existed. Anyway hopefully you can answer all of your original questions for me.

The 35x10x10 12V fan was one that popped up on Amazon under that search. All I had to do was splice on the connector from the old/bad fan, and I was good to go. If I were to do it again, I MIGHT consider spending time trying to find a quieter fan replacement, but the noise this one makes is tolerable. Very few places I found online had dB ratings for these little accessory fans, so it quickly became a low priority for me. I just wanted my HU up and running.

Extension Box

Awesome Swap! I'm new here and had to join to show off my swap.

If anybody is interested I completed this swap the other day and I ended up with two extension boxes (Navigation/Bluetooth). They were both the same so I have a spare I'd like to sell, PM me!

This box is a PT296-47130 (but 86100-YY050, PT296-47120, PT296-47130, PT296-47140, 86100-YY061, PT296-47141 should all work together).

Do I need this kit? - Metra 95-8210 Dash Kit - It looks like it'll be too big for the pt546-00140 / t10015.

From some of the pictures I've seen it looks like there are different center trim / radio bezels 55405-35420 vs 55405-35430(jbl/rds)

Im having same problem with the T10015 HU for my 2003 Ltd JBL/RDS seems like all dash kit TA2079B and BKTOY961 doesn't fit the HU and I would need to trim the dashkit with a dremel ? Is the METRA 95-8210 is the solution?

Also have you install steering wheel controls ? Can't find the appropriate adaptators to make it fit from HU to 4Runner actual steering wheel control

Non Audiophile radio upgrade

Can anyone recommend a reasonably easy upgrade for my stock Non-JBL radio in my 08 Sport ?
Ive been trying to read through this thread but Im not sure what is the best HU for someone in my situation.
I would like to upgrade the HU to something with better sound and additional capabilities but I am not what I would call an audiophile. Of course I want an improvement over stock but I am not even sure I could tell the difference between the different units I have seen recommended.

What would be a decent HU with good sound with a straightforward install ? I would like to be able to continue to use the steering wheel controls if possible but it is not 100% required. Touch screen would be nice but also not 100% required.
Any recommendations for a replacement HU that would provide improved sound over stock while not breaking the bank ?

Instead of using the Bespoke nav module, can I use one of these more basic GPS antennas? I don't need Bespoke functions, just want the nav to work.

I'm trying to install the T1819 in my 97 SR5. I have both PT546-00120-CH and PT546-00120-AD. I don't have the USB or Bluetooth adapters as I don't care about USB and I made the modification described here to enable Bluetooth (I don't care about making calls, I just want to be able to stream audio).

The problem I have is that I don't know what to do with my modified PT546-00120-CH! It connects to the T1819 as shown in the pic, however I have nothing to connect to the two female ends. Is it not needed for a 3rd gen, and if so, do I need to make a similar modification to PT546-00120-AD to enable Bluetooth? I've verified that the radio function works fine but Bluetooth currently does not.

Here's my unit installed. The two unconnected female ends at the top of the pic are PT546-00120-CH and I can't see what to do with them.

There should be two factory connectors for the old factory radio. One is power etc, and the other is speakers etc.

If you have the factory amp remove it. Those plugs will plug into the AD and CH plugs. And the T1819 radio does not need the amp.

Unless the previous owner did a hack job and cut the factory connectors off it’s plug and play.
