I tried to search, but could not find the answer. I was wondering if I added an Ultragauge would the DTE be more accurate than the gas gauge in my 96 4runner? Usually when my gas light comes on it only takes around 14 gallons to fill up, never anywhere near the 18.5 gallons the tank is supposed to hold.

Yes. Once you get the ultraguage set up and calibrated it seems to be pretty accurate. It’s mpg calculations are pretty close to what I calculate at fill up.
I’ve set my tank size to 10 litres smaller so that at the empty point I’ve still got a touch in there. I didn’t like the dte value counting on a dry tank as I would never go that low.
It’s a good device, worth the money. My favourite feature is the alarm on coolant temps.

My cluster gauge behaves the same way and it seems to be pretty common. I have an UG as well, and it's good to have a second, more accurate opinion on levels.
Ok thank you. Ya I don't generally run my vehicles much below 1/4 tank before filling up. But those vehicles aren't telling me I'm at empty either with only using 3/4's.

I can confirm this.
When I first got my ultragauge and calibrated everything, I set the tank at 18.5 gallons. The lowest I ever was on fuel was when my UG said exactly 2 gallons to empty, literally right as I was pulling into a gas station my fuel pump started to suck up air and my engine started to sputter slightly. I now set my UG to 16.5 gallons, knowing that 16.5 gallons truly is the limit.
