um...could be just me..but my side mirros look blurry!

so...I'm looking at my side mirrors and I begin to notice that the refltected images look blurry...if I stare at the mirror long enough It kind of begins to hurt my eyes.

I'm assuming this isn't normal or perhaps I'm just going crazy.

I notice that too. I keep thinking they are fogging. I want a way to have the mirror heaters to stay on with the headlights.

i read somewhere that they are on timers for a reason... like if they are on all the time in the summer when its hot, the glass will eventually crack.

Funny how all of you with the blurry mirror images have sport model Runners. I'm wondering if the mirror heating has something to do with either a) warping the reflective mirror area a bit or b) distorting the hydrophillic coating used on the Runner's windows and mirrors to bead water.
The latter could be the issue as the manual specifically tells the owner not to use an abrasion and/or powerful cleaning solutions. This could smear the water resistant coating causing images to look blurred and/or distorted when viewed.

Just my observations.......btw, my mirrors show clear, perfect images!

hrm...well its only when I stare at them for some time....

I use "Invisible Glass" cleaner with some glass wipes...they aren't at all abrasive...hrm...beats me...just glad to hear I'm not the only one.


the side mirrors have that coating? Didn't know that.

and besides could someone just use Rain-X to fix the smearing of the water stuff? Just recoat it?

I believe that when a coating is applied, even solvents like Windex are bad. I think the implied method for cleaning is to wash it, with soap & water, and then squeegee the water off. I have used glass cleaners on my windows with mixed results. It seems like my back window needs to be cleaned three or four times before I see no smears. This leads me to believe that Windex is bad for cleaning glass with coatings on them. And this is with old cotton bath towels and not paper towels. I do not care much for this coating. I like to clean the shit out of my windows.

hrm....well I have always understood that it was NEVER good to use Windex on automotive glass/mirror. It is an Acid and ruins tint and such.

thats why I've never used it at all.
