Hopefully I get them on in the next couple days. I'm gonna get the spare mounted up in the AM, use that to check clearances and then get the other 4 mounted.
I also posted my old tires on craigslist and had a buyer lined up within an hour. I paid $450 for the tires and wheels a couple years ago, sold the wheels for $250, and will sell the used tires and new spare for $190. That means I paid $10 for these tires I drove around for 50k miles. That's a good value!
Precisely. I'd rather have a Toyota part than a GM part on my truck too!

Yep. I'm drawing more juice then most guys here with the two amps in my rig and don't have any issues with the stock alt. I can see it if your running a welder off the truck or winching yourself up a 1000' daily but I'm not. lol

Tires are mounted. Initial impressions: WOW. These tires are quiet, smooth, and ride really really well for a Load Range E tire. They have a very slight hum, but you only hear it if you listen for it. Nothing like the noise from my BFG KMs at all. They are insanely smooth. I've had a slight vibration in the steering wheel for awhile now, even with a new perfect balance on the KMs. With these tires it's totally gone. You can't feel the lugs on these tires at all, even at low speeds. They seem to ride better than my KMs too. I've got them at 38 psi right now. Going to chalk test them in a little bit and see how that looks, but it seems to be on par with what the 5th gen guys run and with all my extra weight I think we're probably about even.
Acceleration took a small hit, but nothing too bad I don't think. I've also only had them up to 40mph. Braking there is a slight decrease in power as well.
I think the tires might need to break in a little bit as well. They seemed a little "slippery" on hard braking situations.

They're actually the skyjacker leafs out of my dad's Tacoma. We just swapped them out for OME Dakars.
Yeah, they're a very attractive tire. They go really well with the trail wheels too I think!

I run 35 in them. in the top picture I have 16 in them and as you can see the rear tire is flexing pretty good

Gotcha, I chalked them and saw pretty even wear around 38 PSI so I'll keep mine somewhere in that neighborhood. Offroad I was thinking 15-20 PSI.
I seriously can't believe how good these tires ride after reading about all the negative things about E rated tires. These ride better than my C rated tires, not sure if it's because those tires were 7 years old (By the manufacture date) or what, but I'm super impressed with these Coopers.
I'll try and upload some pics of the new tires on tonight.

Super quiet tire, I still can't believe how good they ride. They ride better than my C rated KMs for sure. Not sure if it's the fresh rubber, taller sidewall, newer design, or what, but I'm really happy with how the 4Runner rides now. I couldn't make the tires spin easily like I could before driving home in the rain tonight.
Everything seems to be pretty well off as far as clearance. I rub the fender liner over the pinch weld if I come out of the driveway at a pretty fast speed, so I think I'll probably pull the liner back, bend the pinch weld over, seal it up, paint it, and then put the liner back and reshape it with a heat gun. I don't want to cut the liner.
I'm also very close to the front passenger fender liner thing that protects the washer fluid reservoir. What has anyone done about this? I think that'll probably rub on full compression. I might need to relocate the bottle.
Here's some pics as promised! And yes, the front mudflaps will go back on. They came off for some trimming. I'll put them back on after I finish the pinch welds and fender liners.

The rear clears everything, but a bigger/wider tire would be getting pretty close to some stuff. She stuffs the skinny 33's with ease, even with the 861 coils. I love the way the tire looks shoved up in there.

It's great to here some impressions of them. There in the running along with the Toyo MT for me. The Toyo's are 7 pounds heavier and 3/4" taller. They both get good reviews. How much weight did they add for balancing the Coopers for you?
I'm pretty sure I'm getting rims at this point and I think I'll stay on 16's. They're a bit lighter and there's more tires in the 255 range in that size. I'm really liking the Level 8 Tracker but it's a 8.5" rim. My concern is the skinny tire on a slightly wider rim. The Mickey Thompson Classic III is only 8" so I may end up going with that. There both VERY similar bullet hole style rims. What's everyone's thoughts on rim width in the 255 size?

Those look great Unner! I think you will be happy with those. Do you think that you will crank your coilovers up a little to give some more clearance? I need to give some TLC to my pinch welds up front too as my 285 KO2s rub in reverse.

It seems that more tire manufacturers are migrating over to 17" wheels size. Both Nitto and Cooper seem to favor the 17s in the 255 size. I am not sure that anyone still carries a Cooper 255/85/16. It says that they still make it, but they can be hard to track down. When I was checking out the Nitto Ridge Grappler, I noticed that they are only 17" wheel. I think that if I ever decided to order some new fancy pant wheels, I would probably roll some 17" versions.

Great man give me more crap to consider. lol For the 255 size there are more choices in the 16. There about the same in the 285. Sure the Ridge Grappler may only come in 17 now but if it does well they'll make a 16. I was pretty set on the Toyo's until [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION] posted his impressions of these. Maybe I should just start a rim size thread and get people to chime in.

There's actually more offered in the 17" tire in the 255 size in my opinion. You've got the entire range of 255/75/17's which seems to grow everyday since this is the stock size on jeeps, and then the 255/80/17 which is also expanding (ST Maxx, Mastercraft CXT (New), Toyo Open Country AT II (New), Toyo Open Country RT (New), BFG KM2 are the ones I know of in the 255/80/17 size). If you're looking to run a mud tire look at the Open Country RT. It weighs less than the MT and looks like it will have some better road manners.
I'm seriously amazed at how quiet and smooth these tires are versus my old M/Ts. I didn't know my 4Runner could drive so smooth!
Thanks man! I think I'm gonna leave the coilovers where they are at right now. I've got about 1 3/4" rake and I think it sits perfect and rides good as it is too. Raising the coilovers would only help for daily driving activities anyway, when the suspension starts to articulate you'll still rub in the same spots.
I just finished my pinch weld mod. I did mine differently than most people, I'll be posting a write up on it. I took some pictures as I went and it came out really clean in my opinion. You can't even tell anything was done!
Ground to fender I gained right at 1", which is about what I was expecting.
I think if you plan to drive the truck on the street a decent bit and it isn't a straight wheeling rig you'll be happier with some sort of aggressive A/T tire. I don't plan to run an MT again unless I get a stupid crazy deal like I did on my last set. Modern A/T tires have come a long way too, long tread life, quiet, good wet traction, good offroad traction, the only place an MT might be better is in deep snow/mud and extreme rock crawling. I don't ever get to see snow down here, I hate mud, and I don't do too much extreme rock crawling.

I'll try and keep that updated as well. My current tank is still half on the old tires, and half on the new, so it'll be a little bit before I have any sort of data on that.

How is the FuelPax holding up? Any leak problems? I am about to order two of these. I just needed to know if I should plan to mount them flat or upright.

Sorry about the wait man. They held up great for my Moab trip. Even with spending 5000+ miles on the roof loaded with gas. No leaks at all, the only thing is they swell up in the sun and it'll start to smell like gas if you don't vent them very frequently. That'll be with any gas tank though. I stored mine flat. These are a great deal.

Yeah, I ordered 2 of these on Friday. Once they get in, I plan on working with Rago Fabrication to make an upright mount for my roof rack! :banana:
