Update on my 10,000 mile road trip

Are you going to have time to explore a bit? Schlatter Lake and high rock point is one of my all time favorite places, haven't been out there for a few years though.

I have extended family in Alantic Mine, I went to school up there as well.

We have a lake house in Twin Lakes. I try to make it up about 4 times a summer. Never been out to where you mentioned yet though.

Dad's 2011 Limited vs my 2012 TE. I had a 2008 SE and he was looking for a new 4WD SUV and the options out there for a successful business man with body on frame (hunting) are limited. He ended up with the Limited which is perfect for a guy like him. I moved up to my '12 TE on May 19th (started with 7 miles...I now have over 7,200)

Looks like you went through Duluth - probably drove right by my house!

Interesting story - We were coming up 35 when we noticed that traffic was backing up really badly.

we bailed off at 23...road up a few miles saw another sign that said 23 closed before US2. Bailed off at CR8 and dirt road'd it across the state line into Wisconsin.

Pretty badass shortcut.

It was two vehicles with radios, maps, smart phones and sat nav...pretty awesome minus the massive dust cloud that my mom and brother had to breathe from my 4Runner

I'm in mackinac island now. Gotta pick up my 4runner later on today back down in Rochester hills, MI.

Well it's finally over. The month long journey has come to an end.

I'm sitting here in my new / empty apartment in Kansas wondering how I survived all that driving. Never once pulled over. Never once hassled by cops.

My truck started out brand new on May 19th when I returned from Afghanistan. It now has 9,850 miles.

My total trip length since June 20th is somewhere north of 7,000 miles. Add in my previous trip to michigan in Mid June and it's around 9,200 miles.

I didn't keep track of gas...I really should have.

Don't drink monster energy drinks...I used to be a fan...now it's coffee and water. I'll use those little Mio's in my water...work pretty good. In a pinch I'll use 5hr energy drinks. Monsters are produced by the devil.

I'm sure there's more...but that's kind of the end of it. Since my last posting I drove down to Killeen, Tx to see my GF...it really was worth the extra effort just to spend a few days with her. I spoke to her 15yo son and her father about my intentions to eventually marry her. They both took it very well...so with any luck I'll be married within the next year and half or so.

Toyota 4Runner specific content:

- Yaesu 8900R is ready to go into the truck...BUUUUUTTT

The stock ENTUNE Headunit sucks absolute balls. I'm not kidding. I hate this thing. So I'm taking the Yaesu and having a stereo shop to do the full install and do a coordinated install with a new head unit. Get that junk out of my truck.

- Having a brake controller (sans trailer) is an awesome way to deal with tailgaters.

- I love my truck

- Whoever is the man responsible for cruise controls on 4Runners should be hung by his / her balls naked...in the sun...covered in honey near giant red - ant hills.
