Updating settings yourself

I reviewed my manual today, and I found there are a lot of customization options I can set in my 4runner. I also found this thread.

I've purchased this connector, which works with some free software on my iPhone for gathering engine data from the odb.

However, this is all engine information, MPG, fuel sensors etc. I'm assuming this functionality is programmable through this connector, I just need the software to interface with it. I'm a software engineer, so I'm reasonably comfortable with this, I just can't seem to find any well documented solutions. Has anyone changed these settings themselves successfully with an iPhone?

Techstream is the program you need, and it runs on a 32 bit Windows OS, so you'll need that in a VM or something as well. There is a connector on Amazon that comes with a version of techstream, and it is supposed to work. I've bought it but haven't gotten around to hunting down a 32 bit OS yet.
