I have a basic radio in my 2010 sr5. Will the 6 disc changer and bluetooth factory radio work even if i dont have steering wheel controls? If so how would i pair the bluetooth to my phone without the steering wheel controls?

Hi JAZLUVR,

In every Toyota vehical that I've seen, the steering wheel controls are only a remote over-ride function of the head unit itself. In other words, those buttons on the steering wheel e.g., advance, back, vol (up down), mode...etc, do exactly the same thing that can be done right from the hu (local). The BT feature is a function of the hu itself, not the steering wheel audio system controls.

So I guess the answer to your question is... if the hu has the BT feature, then yes it will work w/o the remote steering wheel controls. As far as your hu being compatible w/a remote c.d. changer... you need to look at the head unit's "rear connection panel" to determine if it has the remote c.d. changer connection port option; usually a quick search here on this forum would be well worth the time spent. JAZ, suggest you check with crutchfield or a stereo shop to see what is available. Usually there are aftermarket adapters that allow you to keep steering wheel controls with new head units assuming the head units have the functionality that the steering wheel controls are for. In the last year or so, I have replaced a couple of factory head units. On one, I had steering wheel controls for volume, mode, tuning, track skip, etc. I bought a head unit that added bluetooth as well. I had to wire in an adapter to the wiring harness that allowed me to use the steering wheel controls with the new head unit. On the other, I didn't have steering wheel controls but the vehicle door chimes, etc. played through the car speakers, so I had to wire in an adapter that allowed me to keep that stuff also. Have no idea if such an adapter exists that allows you to keep steering wheel controls and also the phone pairing and factory bluetooth mic, but it very well may exist. If it does, crutchfield can tell you and will usually sell it to you half price if you buy the head unit from them.

Need wiring adapter

Ok so I got the factory 6 disc changer in and as I figured the wiring connections in the back are different. Does anyone know if there is a wiring (connector/adapter/harness) that will enable me to use the following unit:

FACTORY OLD UNIT-(86120-35370)

FACTORY NEW UNIT-(86120-35450)
