Upper ball joint fix threads

Has anyone been able to use a die or thread file to fix the threads on upper ball joints and or outer tie rods?

I bought a die, but I don't think it's the right size. Swore the bolt was 12mm but my calipers tell me it's 13.5mm. I don't expect I will find a die for that size easily. May need to try a thread file.

Either way it would help me a bunch to be able to repair them!

I'm almost certain that's 12x1.25 thread. Were you measuring the diameter at the threads?

Mine measures at 13.86mm, which makes it an M14 thread.

Not the most proper but could you not just crank on the nut a bit harder and force it to turn? The nut itself will flatten out those threads and still hold. Those threads don't look too badly damaged.

I went ahead and replaced them...
Rockauto...very inexpensive. less headache in my opinion.

Thanks all. I was able to use a thread file that made short work of repairing the threads. It was $15 on amazon.
