URD MAF Sensor Calibrator

Received my y-pipe from URD. Nice piece. Took the time to wrap it (protecting the trans pan) and then coated it with high temp silicone spray. All good.

Then go started taking everything apart under the 4Rnr. Going swimmingly right up until I got to the header / cat flanges.

Note to all - there is a very good chance you are going to need new exhaust split nuts. 2 of the 4 nuts on the cat flanges came off just fine. The 3rd bound up a bit, then the 4th split nut bound and twisted off the end of stud....

...and....I have no replacements studs or nuts.

So the 4Runner now sits in the garage in pieces till Monday am when I can make a run with my wife's car to get a replacement stud and 4 split nuts. :frusty::frusty::frusty:

Y-Pipe installed.

Some Y-Pipe installation notes:

You may very well need new exhaust flange studs and nuts. Those parts numbers are the following:

Studs: 90126-10033 (x4)
Split Nuts: 90080-17187 (x4)

And...you may need the large crush ring gasket the goes between the Y-pipe and the muffler. I reused mine, but am keeping an eye on it in case of leakage.

Ring gasket: 17451 (that's the only number shown online)

Y-pipe and Skids plates:

- For those wondering if it will clear skid plates, it will. However...I have the RCI aluminum plates with the angle reinforcement brackets installed. I wrapped the pipe in high temp exhaust wrap. And...the pipe just touches those reinforcements. I plan to take the plate off and notch the brackets to prevent any issues on the trail. I'll try to post a photo as soon as I can.

Can you post up some pics?

How's the fit with the RCI Skids? Do they clear easily or is it a close fit? The y-pipe looks well protected by the skid, but because of the reduced airflow I can see the desire for heat wrap under the tranny now.

Solid fit. Nothing is stressed or crushed. I think the wrap cause the pipe to slightly touch.

My concern...there is no room for the plate to give. The two brackets shown on the plate are optional on the RCI skids and can be removed. They proved themselves in Moab, so I plan on notching them to allow for some room for the pipe.

Hope that helps.

UPDATE: Received the URD MAF Calibrator. Installed this morning and took the 4Runner over to fill up on 93 octane.

Initial impressions: Engine idles much smoother. Impressively so. Prior to install, my center skid plate would slightly rattle when in park. Now...nothing.

Throttle pedal has a more progressive feel. I have a 45-50 mile trip to do this afternoon. Interested to see how everything adapts.

More to come.

Y pipe + URD MAF + 93 octane... hoping to hear some spectacular results

do you always run 93? or just recently. I'm asking because it takes a few tanks for old octane to flush

I started with 87 octane but changed over to 93 when I heard of some folks having good results. Even before the mods, the results were better then 87.

I have the TRD intake, URD Y-Pipe and now the MAF Calibrator. So far...so good.

Terrapod awesome! I received mine as well but have yet to install it. I'll probably do it on my lunch break.

So from reading your install this morning I take it you didnt unplug the battery for awhile like some of the members did?

We'll have the same exact setup once i install the MAF.

Have you thought of exhaust options?

Install went pretty smoothly. Only took about 35min or so. Yes...I did disconnect the battery and let it sit for the install time.

Regarding exhaust - I have...but nothing I have seen really jerks my chain. A a lot of the exhaust outlets are ridiculously huge. Since I do go off road, I don't really have any need for a giant fart pipe.

Just stumbled across this thread. The URD plug and play device looks very tempting. I'll google it later, but curious as to the price?

I have been running regular octane fuel since new, but will probably run premium next weekend for a trip up the Coquihalla to see if I notice a difference.

Its been a few weeks, how are you feeling about your upgrades? I am considering the same route.

he went from 87 to 93 after his urd calibrator mod... so what he's feeling might simply be the change in octane

I went from 87 to 93 octane for 5 tanks (no maf calibrator) and I am certain I felt no change in terms of my butt dyno. My ear dyno heard no change as well. If there are any changes in hp/tq from just higher octane it is so slight that if someone feels the difference they have a very well calibrated butt dyno.

I am still waiting to see/hear from someone who has tried the URD maf cal on a totally stock 4r and if they have any feedback.

i felt a change when swapping to a few tanks of 93 octane. Engine felt smoother and the same hill i take up and down several times a day took less effort. No change in mpg at that time though.

I'm back to 87 though.
