Use cigarette lighter in other aux power outlet?

I rarely use my cigarette lighter (don't smoke). This is because I know that if I do I have to use two hands while pulling it out, or the whole cigarette lighter assembly comes out. Can I use the cigarette lighter in another aux power outlet? Or will I start a fire?
