Used 2014 vs New 2016

So I've done a ton of research on the 5th gen's and have narrowed it down to purchasing a newer ('14+) SR5P with 4x4. On average a Certified 2014 is $3500 cheaper than a new 2016 with basically identical options. So my question is, is getting a new 2016 worth the extra $3-$4k?

In my opinion, of course the extra $3-4K is worth it. You are getting a vehicle with lesser mileage, and more warranty. No brainer here.

I started looking for a 5 seat Limited in Magnetic Grey last September. I was getting prices all over the map, and in many cases used with 10000+ kms with higher price tags than new. Fast forward to the end of this past February I came across three Limiteds, Mag Grey in 5 seat . The silly thing is, the first was a 2015 with 11000 kms and they were asking $2k less than my 2017 new. The second was a 2016 with 34000, $1k more. The third I came across was a 2016 with 58000 kms, $1k less.

The 2015 with 11000 kms, was from a dealership I had dealt with in 2009 and purchased my 05 Xterra from them. I spoke to the same salesman and told him his price was off, even with the low kms, he was too high. He then contacted me a week later and dropped the price by $1k. He made it sound as though it was a special discount for me as I had dealt with him in the past. I checked out their Toyota site, along with Canadatrader and the price was dropped by $1k there as well, so no real discount for me.

In the end, after dealing with 15+ Toyota dealers from central to Western Canada, I had a salesman call be back and tell me he thinks they had the 'one'. Mag Grey Limited 5 seat, fantastic price (to me at least) considering the prices on all the used models I had found. I made the down payment to secure the vehicle, then flew there 3 days later to complete the sale/paperwork.

I don't understand how the pricing varies so much from dealer to dealer, new and used. I understand supply and demand, but there is no logic to the variances even with new.

Anyways, back to the OP, go with the 2016. For the 3-4K, it is worth it.

I found the same thing with pricing. When I was shopping at the beginning of this year it wasn't crazy to find used 2014+ 4runners listed the same or more than a brand new 16/17. What in the world is up with that? I went new. Dealer tried to push me in a 2015 with 25k miles listed the same as brand new ones. Some people must be buying used ones at those prices. Idk. Car game is weird.

And I would rather burn in hell for eternity than deal with 15+ car salesmen . Man oh man, you earned that purchase. Probabaly got the best deal ever.
