Used Trails are impossible to find!

Trying to convince the husband to let me trade in either our truck my 3rd gen for a 5th gen Trail.

I've done an Autotrader search within 200 miles of us and can't find any! So annoying..these things need to stop being so awesome so I can get one lol

I don't know where you are in Ohio, but here's an absolutely cherry silver 2012 Trail with Nav and KDSS asking $32,000. and a reasonable 28K miles. It's a private party sale in Romeo, Michigan...about 40 miles north of downtown Detroit.

Here's a black 2013 with only 20K miles at a Toyota dealer in Morgantown, WV which is within 200 miles for most areas of Ohio. It has NAV, but there's no mention of KDSS. Priced rather high at $35,532, but it is last year's model and who knows how soft they area on that price.

That silver 2012 looks like it's been babied, and if the owner is flexible on the price that's a heck of a rig.

Well that was probably my problem, I searched for ones under $30k.

I have been keeping an eye on '10-12 Limiteds and have learned a bit.

You need to check multiple sites like cars.com, edmunds.com, toyotacertified.com

I also look at the toyota dealer websites directly since most don't list on the national sites.

Trail's are the least available model due to less volume and owners who purchase them tend to not sell quickly.

There appears to be a bell curve for model year availability.

13-14 low inventory
11-12 medium inventory, many coming off lease
10-11 medium to low.
08-09 low due to slow sales, leases

There is a '10 Trail in Lexington KY (down the street from me)

Hi Laureena, yep-spot on. i spent about 4 weeks doing cars.com, auto trader.com, ebay, craigslist searches for a used T4R TE under $30K. Generally, only about 60 for sale across the US for 2010-2013 below $35K. now of course there are a few more, as not all dealers advertise on the big sites, and i found some dealers don't know what they are and list them as an SR5 (look for the TE hood scoop and circular rim pattern). so maybe 100 or so for sale across the US for this year and price range. i'm in phx, and only 1 used TE came up for sale recently listed for $26K in the last month (gray one). 1 used TE, 4MM people hard to find thing. so i stopped by the dealership and it had just sold. they had and still have a used 2011 LE and it hasn't gone anywhere.

so finally over the weekend i found a black 2010 TE and purchased it. it's a whopping 450 miles away in another state. hope you find your TE…the right one will come around. you may need to drive a little ways to get it…but it's worth the wait and effort. cheers, dj

The resale on 4R's blows my mind. Not calling it a good investment (depreciating asset), but better than most other vehicle purchases!

If you can afford to be patient and are willing to travel to get your perfect rig youll eventually find what your looking for. FWIW, some areas seem better than others and you seem in a relatively good location from what I noticed while searching for my TE.

I initially fully intended purchasing used but the lack of inventory in my surrounding area and their corresponding prices drove me to a new 14 instead.

Like others have said check all the sites and carfax reports cant hurt either. Sounds like theirs a few good ones close to you but if they arent what youve got your heart set on, be patient, keep searching, and you'll eventually find what your looking for. Nothings worse than buyers remorse on a vehicle!

Why fight it... just head south a few hundred miles and buy a new one. I saw at least six or seven 4Runners, two or three of them being Trails or Trail Premiums, all lined up and hidden in the back at my local Toyota dealer north of Atlanta. Sorry I didn't think to get a pic but here one of mine to wet your chops.
