V6 4Runner vs. Base Cayenne V6

the subject says it! what do you guys think when we put these two head to head? my uncle just bought the cayenne and has been bragging to me, but i just shrugged it off and showed him he payed about $15,000 more for something that does not have more impressive numbers than my V6, and is less reliable.

Here are the numbers for the Cayenne:

247 HP @ 6000rpm
229lb-ft @ 2500-5500rpm
0-60 in 8.5 sec.

here's the V6 Limited:

4.0 V6

the reason i said he paid almost $15,000 more was to make him look silly for saying he paid $60,000 for a Cayenne V6.

for the same budget, there are some who buy the cheapest model of an expensive name vs. others who buy the most expensive model of a less expensive name. i've always been in the latter group because i like to have all the options a vehicle has to offer. different strokes for different folks! let us know how it turns out if you and your uncle decide to duke it out on the asphalt! :bash: :chair:

slowginjoe is correct......he is the person who goes for the expensive name for bragging rights. we'd duke it out on the asphalts, but my aunt would have our heads. maybe we can sneak out one day. :

You forgot to mention that the Cayenne weighs 1000lb more. I would like to see them get a 0-60 in less than 9s.

well actually...the porsche site lists the 6spd manual in 8.5s and the 6spt auto in 9.1s. i totally forgot about the weights. how come it weighs so much more?

Not trying to pick a fight/argument here, but take this with a grain of salt because this is 3rd hand information. A "so-called" friend of mine said that Porsche vehicles were rated as one of the most reliable vehicles on the road. Now I'm not too sure about that because I'm not a big fan of European cars due to their reliability issues. Maybe someone can research if Porsche is rated as a top 10 or whatever reliable vehicle.

The classic Porsche Carrera platform has been very reliable and has consistently recieved top quality honors for more years than most people can remember.

The first Boxsters had some issues. And the Touareg/Cayenne platform has been plagued with problems since it's release. Go check out edmunds for consumer feedback.

I would like to see it tested, but it weighs a lot for a 3.2 V6.

I have no idea why the integrated design weighs so much.

i was waiting for this response because i made that statement under the assumption that the Cayenne V6 is not a true Porsche. I'm thinking that it shares the same engine and maybe other components with the Touraeg. Correct me if I'm wrong though! I do think that the Cayenne V8 and Turbo are beasts! But to spend that much money on a V6 is a waste IMO.

From what I understand....

VW and Porsche share about 80% of the parts and components. IT was a joint design together for eahc to share much of the parts with only body parts and engine to be diffferent--rip roaring V8 and Turbo V8 to be exclsuively Porsche while VW will have the less powerful V8 and V6. Then Porsche decided to make an entry--entry level Cayene, the V6 shared with VW.

Since VW has been having QC issues it would not surprise me that it may have spread to Porsche as well.

One of the reasons it is so heavy is the veyr stout frame work that allows an extremely stiff vibrationand flex free frame.It is supposed to be build like a Swiss bank vault but making it work maybe another thing.

It's actually a unibody...but i know what you mean. They reinforced it quite a bit to make the unibody as flex-free as possible...thus, the weight. Just look at the Range Rover...it's as heavy as the Lexus LX470 despite being a unibody. [Unibody is supposed to save weight.] Land Rover/BMW/Ford had to reinforce the unibody so much for off-roading duty that the weight just ballooned up.

What are the actual performance specs for 4.0L V6?

This is my first ever posting on this forum. I've been reading the many views here since I purchased my 04 runner back in May of this year. Please inform me if I am not coming in here correct and/or if I step on anyone's toes.

My question is: I 've been unable to locate any 0-60 time splits for the 4rd generation 4.0L V-6 4-runner. As a matter of fact, there just isn't much darn info out there about this engine's capibilites from actual field testers. Perhaps with the new 05 Tacoma sharing this same V-6 engine, we will find get some actual times, tow ratings, and other indepth engine performance results. One can easily locate the 4.7L V-8 iforce engine times or performance engine ratings, but I cannot find one mag which has engine performance data/time splits for Toy's new 4.0L V6 engine. I am wondering if any of you have stumbled upon info and could possible point me toward those websites.

P.S. I believe the 2004 4.0L V-6 purchasers got the shaft with Toyota dropping the 5 speed into this year's (05) 6 cycliner 4WD runners. My only complaint about my truck is that the 4 spd tends to search for the right gear when slowing down and resuming b4 a complete stop. Also, the 4 spd seems weak when climbing a steep hill because of the long 3rd and 4th gear spacing. Toyo did a wise move to include the 5 spd tranny as standard on ALL 4 runners. My last suggested to them would be to make heated mirrors standard on all 4WD models. If you go snow crawling or scooping then you have to stop often to clean your outside mirrors........rats Toyo!

BTW....I have a 2004 4WD SR5 Galatica Gray w/17inch sport rims, rear spoiler, moonroof, a la-la-la TOYo stereo w/6 cheap speakers and bug deflector.

Future hopeful addons.....Aftermarket DVD/Navi system, 2 more speakers and one woofer, chrome front Bull Bar, clear taillamp assembly (the all-new 2005 Tacoma look-alike truck should help this and many other aftermarket accessories become available for the 4runner), and a possible 3-4 inch lift (which is why I didn't buy a sport X-rag edition) if it doesn't violate Toyota's "sensitive" warranty.

Just to setlle the Cayenne V6 vs 4R debate. The Cayenne takes 60 in 8.8 and 1/4 in 16.7, the 4R will beat that. Go take your uncle to the local dragstrip and make him sorry he ever tried. If he doesn't know how to get the last ounce out of it, he will end up with worse time due to the 2nd gear start of the porsche.

it's a cool looking truck. i especially like the look of the rear end. i'm happy he got what he liked, but man his bragging makes me want to take him to a track. i really was hoping he'd get the v8 so i can test drive it. :
