V6 owners, how are your water pump holding up?

my 04 has 155k miles and the original water pump has no sign of any problems. but I have a 2000 mile trip coming up to FL, I wonder should I replace it prior I leave.

I'm just over 100k and no issues... But now that I said that it will probably take a dump on me next week... Haha.

The best way to blow a head gasket on an aluminum block is heat - likely from the water pump going out and leaking coolant into the oil. Make sure to watch your coolant level if you don't do it.

Mine has 113 and no signs of going out, but I'm going to have my brother do the pump (he's doing his at 100k as well) when it cools off some. I'd rather do the preventative maintenance and play it safe.

I'm just coming up to 100K and haven't had any signs either. I agree with galactic though. I think when you know it's time, it's best to do the preventative maintenance.
I'll be having mine done along with the timing belt very soon.

Mine has over 210k miles...no issues so far.

Water pumps are not usually a maintenance item. But I have heard that these pumps do have problems. Just keep an eye on your fluid level.

Oh! Well being that I'm new to all of this, I'm still trying to figure it all out. I thought I had read that I needed to replace it at 90K but haven't started searching it yet. Sorry for the mistake.

Just replaced mine, 120k. Fluid level in the reservoir was dropping slowly, I could see pink staining on the front of the engine below the pump.

I replaced the serpentine belt tensioner while I was in there.

Are you saying that a failure of the water pump could cause coolant to leak into the oil, or are you saying that a failure of the water pump could cause overheating which may blow the head gasket and allow coolant to leak into the oil?

That's sooo true anytime you say something is doing fine:driving: it always breaks just to show you up..How easy of a job is it to do a W/P on the V6?

is this something that is inherent to a specific year, or engine?

ive never heard of changing a WP as part of maintenance. we wait until they leak.
some will go a LONG time.

not too hard of a job, only hassles are from removing the generator and AC compressor(from the block but no need to disconnect).

the thing worries me is the thermostat housing, it's made of plastic. I bought all the OEM parts 3 years ago after we purchased the truck at 123k, it has been running fine so I didn't bother to replace it.

I'll probably get it done this week.

Just chiming in here. I've got over 170k on mine, had it since new and I've never changed the water pump. So far, there has been no reason too as far as I know.

One of my past PM checks was to check the weep hole on the bottom of the w/p for drips or stains about every 6 – 12 mo (when I get in the 100,000 mi range or more if I notice any problems). It appears that I will not have a clear view of this weep hole (below the left small pulley above crank’s), even with the skid plate off. I’ll be able to see (from the top) close enough, if the weeping becomes excessive, due to staining in the area or coolant. Either will usually indicate that the w/p seal and bearings are going bad. I found some info years ago that some weep holes were designed to weep slightly to help lubricate the bearings.

My 07, 18 mo new to me, just turned 48,000 and I purchases with 43,000, I hope the pump last. Changing the oil ea 6 mo vs 5,000 per the warr is killing my once a year at 3,000 spirit.

Was changing out the power steering fluid and noticed dried pink on the block around the crank pulley. Coolant level has been very slowly dropping (added coolant for the first time ever two weeks ago) so I figured something must be up. I know no coolant has been getting in the oil as of 2000 miles ago as I had a used oil analysis that was excellent. I'm guessing that my water pump is failing. Sad as my 4Runner doesn't even have 60,000 miles on it. I'm guessing this must be a design or production flaw with the other failures reported here and my father's water pump failed on his 2008 with similar symptoms about one year ago with about 50,000 miles on it.

We're heading to the high Sierra with the trailer in a few weeks so I've got to fix this prior to that. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? I see recommendations to purchase the OEM (Aisin WPT-802?) but with such an early failure I'm not yet convinced I want the OEM!!! (I've never had a water pump fail in all of the various Hondas I've taken over 100,000 miles). Any pointers or recommendations?

96k on my 2005 SE and no problems on original water pump so far.

160K on my original pump with no problems. With that said, I'm planning on replacing it next month, along with the tensioner, serp belt, and all of the idler pulleys. I'm actually excited to get it done. Did the timing belt and water pump etc on my Accord last year, and want to get that familiar with the T4R as well.

Just replaced my in my 2004 V6 last winter. Wasn't planning on it but got a hole in my rad which I was replacing. while I was in there took a look at everything including the water pump. Could not see weep hole until pulled belt pulley off and there it was...a bunch of crusty pink leaking out. Point is was no indication it was going until I took a real close look.

+2 to Craigers. Did belt, tensioner at same time. Your in there anyway and the parts aren't too expensive.

Worth doing in my opinion and not too difficult to do.
