V8 Engine oil capacity?

When I get my oil/filter service done at my dealership, I always specify 6.0 L of Mobil 1, even though the owner's manual calls for 6.2L.
Better a little under than over!

It takes 6.5 quarts with filter.
The manual specs both liters and quarts, which is 6.5 as progress mentioned. If you DIY and let it drain until it stops, you'll probably find you need 7 quarts to get exactly to the full mark. Similarly, I can put an extra .25 or so into our CR-V.

I'd be careful about putting in any "extra" - that's why I always go a little under.

In my case there is no "extra" except relative to the manuals' stated capacity. Going by the marks on the dipsticks I'm always dead on full. I've also had a change or two that was closer to the manual...probably either stopped the draining early or the oil cooled faster/started out cooler than the norm so the drain wasn't as complete.
A lot of vehicles stated specs are also designed to put you half way between the low/full mark to allow for this kind of tolerance. I'd have to go dig in the FSM, but the actual block holds at least another quart or two of oil above the 6.5 stated...how much you put back simply depends on how well you drain it...I use ramps, let it drain as long as it feels like it and try to start with a hot motor.

My 07 V8 4Runner takes 7qts to full mark with oil/filter change. Put 6.2 in as stated in its manual it will be 1qt low when checked.
After googling a bit I hit a blog on Lexus GX owners saying 7qt oil capacity and ended up looking up specs on them.
Well' they hold 6.8qt in specs? I can only guess if they use the same Japan built 4.7 in both GX & 4R, they use same oil pans? Why the oil specs are printed differently from GX 6.8qt to 4R 6.2qt in manuals I have no idea but this seems to be the case.
USA built Tundra 4.7 states 6 in specs I found but again, owners say they are not full with only 6qt? :mmph:

7qts will get you to the full mark with a factory YZZD3 filter

I put 6 in my 2007 V8 and it hits the middle of the marks on the dipstick. I don't see any reason to use another half bottle unless someone knows of one.

Sorry to bring this up from the dead but I just did my oil change (07 sport 4runner) with OEM filter and put in 6.25 qts and it reads ~1/4" over the full mark.... is this okay?
Can't tell any difference as far as driving but idk if this will have adverse effects down the road.
Also, as I understand, there's nothing special to do when switching from dino to synthetic? Only thing is that you can't run it as long with OEM filter...is this correct?
