V8 gas mileage w/o lift

OK, so for all you folks that have V8's but no lift kits, what kind of city/hwy gas mileage do you get? I have a lift kit, which I love, but I am thinking of removing it for the gas mileage gain. That is why I am asking for yall's opinions, so I can gauge how much MPG I can expect to gain. I am also installing a K&N CAI soon, so hopefully that will help a little bit also.

That's by my calculations, the on-board shows .5-1.0 higher then my calculations consistently.

I've been getting about 15-16 mpg based on filling up and taking mileage with mainly city driving. The trip computer seems to always show a little bit higher (16-18 mpg).

I do have aftermarket wheels, so I'm sure that makes a little difference, but I'd love to get up to 18 mpg like some of these members.

For you guys getting high teens in the city, what is your average speed? There is a big difference between going 40 mph down boulevards or stop and go traffic jam on the highway.

15-16+ mpg city (summer)
19-20+ mpg highway
8 - 9 mpg towing (lowest was 6.95)

ive heard that lowering a vec. 2 ins., can net up to 2 mpg more, but i believe a change in driving habits will work better. also, removing the carbon filter on your stock intake, cleaning everything, & a new air filter, may give you a better bump in mpg than the k&n cai will. most times guys get off on the sound of them & use more gas, a so called "performance mod" usually doesnt come with a mpg gain. its my experience that its the new, clean filter in the unit that accounts for most gain seen in the beginning. which is why i say again, a change in driving habits might work best.

Haven't updated my spreadsheet in a while but...

2008 V8: 50,602.10 miles and 2,891.78 gallons yields 17.5 MpG. There's probably a few gallons in there from the lawn mower / snow blower, but it's less than one-half percent.

dude your not going to get hardly anything better with your runer 3 inches lower to the ground. sorry and its a trade off... have your runner look bad ass and everyone checkin it out when your driving or get a smidge better gas mileage and look plain and blend in. u decide... as for me ill go the badass route

I hear you, and I definitely don't want to take the lift off because it looks sick, but these guys are getting 20 or better on the highway with no lift! I'm getting like 15-16! That is a major difference. 4 mpg to be exact. I don't drive it above 80 ever.

OK, I'm gonna put this question differently: In your V8, non-lifted Runner, could you make a six-hour drive (356 miles) on one tank of gas? Because I can't. I drive from Birmingham, AL to Asheville, NC fairly often, which is 356 miles, and I always have to fill up about an hour from Asheville. Does that sound reasonable, or is that ridiculous?

I'm at about 17-18 on the highway with 32" AT's. Prior to that 19's when stock.

If you are doing a lot of highway miles, removing the spacers will improve mpg's but I'd make some easy changes first.
1. Increase tire pressure to 40psi.
2. Change all lubricants to synthetic
3. Tune up

Let us know if the CAI helps.

I could do that, for sure. I generally get around 320-330 per tank (light comes on, plenty in reserve) and that's with my tank average 16-17 mpg. Up here 65mph is the limit and I never much break 70.

The other day I filled up then got directly on the highway (gently) and my computer was showing average MPG as 20.X and climbing. So reality is probably 19ish calculated.
