Average; try to minimize trompin' on it; especially from a stop
mixed/rural/highway
new rig for me but first few tank-fulls are averaging a little better than 17 mpg calculated. (I'm running stock Michelin AT's at 35 psi x 4)

I am curious what mods, if any, had a positive effect on mileage. (assuming no change in driving conditions/style after mods)

What are the 6 cyl 4th gens getting?

Mix of city and expressway.

(Today, January 6, 2012 I was driving very aggressively so that why it's low, when I drive Average it can do 15 or so.)

And that's why I tried my best to get the V8 version. I'd rather have the power then trying to save a few bucks a week.

V8 gas mileage

I traded my 96 4 runner on a 04 v8 a few weeks ago. When I first go the truck the computer gas mileage (after I reset it) was reading about 16 mpg. Recently it has been reading 12 mpg. I drive it in town but very conservatively to try to keep the mpg up. Any idea why it has dropped so much and why it is so low at the moment? I've done the math myself and it is about right.

best run: 18.2 mpg

I live at the moment in Kosovo Europe, with bumpy, narrow and slow roads and a lot of braking and stopping. When I go my V8 Limited in June this year I started driving it the same style I am driving my old 2.0 Mercedes and the MPG dropped into nothing! Ok, it was fun to win every race with a SUV nearly double the size of the cars that populate the streets here - BUT IT CAME AT A (GAS) PRICE!

This machine certainly needs a different driving style, even more so if you have to buy your gas in Europe (double the price of the US!). But by avoiding all needless acceleration and keeping a moderate medium speed, I make 18.2 on long distances mixed with a few city runs!

That's ok for a car of this size and power!

(But I must admit that I take my old Benz when I am in the mood to race!)
