Vacuum switching valves compatibility

So I finally replaced the 4wd actuator that went bad and found that just like the diff locker, it actually corroded through the aluminum and that's why it was leaking.

Anyway, got the new one in, and now I find that one of my vacuum switching valves isn't working. I verified that the signal is switching properly, the harness voltage goes from 10V to 0V on both connector (oppositely) when I switch the J-shifter.

So looking on ebay, there are lots of relatively cheap valves, about $25 typically versus the $70 at the cheapest online dealership I could find. Most of the ebay ones are for other toyota's though (newer lexus', corollas, etc.).

They look just the same as the 4nunner one, just different colors, so my questions is, do all of these run on the same voltages? I can shave off the connector keys, as it looks like they all use the same connector.

So do you think any of these will be plug and play after shaving the connector key?

I saw one the other week for $25 on Fleabay. Just keep looking. I'd hold out to find the right part.

Yeah, I searched through about 400 auctinos this morning and found a ton of 2nd gen sets for $25. They look like the exact same valve, but the mounting peice is different. My mound is rusted to hell, and I even broke off the bolt getting it out

Since mine's buggered anyway, I might just get a 2nd gen set.

And since have the views of this thread are probably just people looking for interesting pictures (I mean, that's how I surf forums...), here are some pics of the corrosion hate...

First pic is what fell out after is removed the crimped on end cap

Second and third are the corroded sealing surface, supposed to be a groove for the gasket.

Well, I went ahead an ordered some used 2nd gen VSV's since they are so cheap and plentiful, and I will just find a way to mount them. It looks like the connector is the same from 2nd to 3rd gen, but I can't see the PN on the 3rd gen ones (I think it was one the metal and has rusted away). I have looked in the fiche's, but I can't find a diagram that shows what my VSV's look like. I think I found the evap vsv, but nothing looks like the 4wd vsv's.

Cool, I need the 4hi vsv as well and was tempted to just take one from the many 2nd gens at the local junkyard.

Update, just got my 4wd working again tonight. I didn't get a picture before it got dark, but good news!

The 2nd Gen VSV's are plug and play replacements for the 3rd gen ones. Even the mounting bracket is bolt on compatible. The only difference is that the valves will be upside down from what they originally were. This doesn't affect the functionality at all, you can still plug in the tubes just the same. The plugs are the same (same colors even), so if your 4wd VSV's go out, buy cheap used 2nd gens of ebay!

That is great to hear. Those 2nd gen VSVs are a dime a dozen on Ebay at any given time.
