Meh, two useless packages.

I wish toyota would at least try to be creative.

Like an SR5 5th gen with lockers and a shift lever transfer case. A simple but purpose built package like that would sell.

Crawl control and safety sense are dumb gimmicks.

That’s the TRD off road, no? Only additional “gimmicks” I can think of are the silver valence and the wheels. Maybe you’re being sarcastic and I totally missed it.

Hey hey now my venture edition came with 285 toyo at3s and a lift package! (TRD bilstein package + spacers to fit the 285s) and I was still able to haggle it down to low 40ks.

I think the passing by 4runners were honestly just jealous of my blacked out door handles, tailgate spoiler, and valence

I think if one was looking for a limited model the nightshade is the only way to go. Small price adjustment for a much more aesthetically pleasing look.

Hood scoop is a gimmick, but I like it as it readily identifies the versions with a rear locker, but then again the glare can be bad if the sun is just right and it's clean.
Wheels are wheels, but the trail wheels do protect the valve stem a hair better than the SR5 versions.
The valence is counter productive as it puts the chin that much further outward/downward (same with the rear), even though it's only maybe adding ~3/8" or so.
Many people feel the crawl control is a gimmick, and while not a must have for me, it is nice on long downhills to just steer.
MTS I actually like and use relatively often. I don't know why 4H doesn't default into Sand/Mud/Snow mode, and I've gotten good usage out of mogul mode climbing soft moguled out hillsides. A-trac probably would have gotten me through, but it would have done more trail damage trying to figure out what was going on.

Maybe others think of it as a gimmick but crawl control was a major selling point for me and I use it pretty regularly crawling rock gardens (up, down, or level), descending ledges, sometimes climbing particularly gnarly spots on various Colorado trails. I have an irrational hatred of the jerk and stop thing that happens on certain kinds of rock gardens with auto trans and a typical low range (2.7:1 or so) despite my best efforts to control it. The ledges aren't a problem to do manually but it is nice to have the option.
