However, while I felt secure with my vehicle at the summit, I think I'm short a couple mods for this event... Based on the current mod schedule I wont be ready for this thing for at least another year; Otherwise I'd be all over trying to convince the Mrs and be your team buddy Joneseyyy..... I'd even bring Zacky's BBQ sauce around for ya!

Vermont overland's events always look awesome, but what is a 4runner owner to do for a front recovery point if they don't want to go to an aftermarket bumper? My only thoughts are a front hitch or a winch....

There's one in the front and one in the back...

Next time your at the mall, and parking lot is dry, look under it..:canada:
 
Been eyeing this event for a while. Don't have a 5th gen, trying to convince the wife she needs one. I'd do it in my 1st gen.

For the front took hook issue. Often thought about that on my 4th gen. Someone manufactures a shackle hanger that bolts to the sides of the front horns of the frame. But i found it expensive at the time. Don't remember the company. But if those bolt holes are the same on a 5th gen it would work.

You could probably make that. 1/4" steel. 2 bolt holes and a hole to fit a shackle. The bolt holes would need to be precise, probably why the prefabed one was probably about 150$.
 
It has a hoop, or recovery point, front and rear. You could slide a shackle/ receiver in the rear...but I'm guessing that isn't rated for the whole truck.

Some guys over on Mud are are shipping their trucks by rail to VA. and driving the rest of the way.
 
If I get my Tundra in over-landing condition this might be something we'd do too. At least the wife asked about it :thumb:
 
Well aware of the tow hooks Titan, my concern is that they are not intended for recovery but are meant for tieing the vehicle down in transit. The only reason I bring it up is because VO are somewhat particular about ensuring you have proper recovery equipment. Do you think that Behemoth could make it through some of those trails? Don't get me wrong, I love Tundras, but.....

The web site had a couple of F150 crew cabs and newer Land Cruisers on it, so I'd be surprised.

As far as fitting on trails in general, all I lack in a Tundra is a 4Runner's breakover angle and turn radius. It's a handicap for sure, but not as big as some make it out to be. You'd be surprised where we took our K35's and deuces when I wore green for a living.

Good point. Well, that tundra crewmax is a hell of a package. I'm interested to see how it would do

What surprised me is the lack of overlanding builds of Tundras, although of those done, they have been most impressive. One guy put a LC transfer case in it and swapped the front diff to get AWD. I am keeping an eye out for a Sequioa transfer case and work on a 2WD/FT4WD/4WD-LOCK/4LOW option.

And this one: '10 Tundra CrewMax - Expedition Portal Tasteful, not really overdone.

Unfortunately the issue with Tundras is that most of the aftermarket caters to the bro's and the bubba's buying them.

I didn't realize the tundra was missing the FT 4WD option. i just assumed it was same as the sequoia. Anyway, I'd never complain about a healthy after-market, regardless of target audience. :cheers:
 
Brought it up with the Mrs as a future trip... and as long as I don't grow the mustache, she's game! ... because " it has no 1000ft drop off like at the FJ Summit"... suspension this year.. hopefully bumper, winch and armor next year in time for the event... or 2015 at the very least.

At least I'm over the first hurdle .. the wife approves! :biggrin2:
