Views on 5th Gen body style

styling

I had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen. I didn't like the 4th gen for a good while. eventually they grew on me and I almost bought one...Until I saw the 5th gen. It was a better representation of what a modern 4runner was supposed to be without forgetting its past. i was sold and bought my '11 TE.
 
I like the 5th Gen Trail over the 4th Gen. But, if you look at our 4th Gen Sport next to our 5th Gen Trail from the front, they don't look that different. The 4th Gen's headlights just slope back too far.

I still like our 4th Gen over the 5th Gen SR5 and Limited. They just seem too chunky to me. I do like the wheels on the SR5, hate the 20's on the Limited.
 
The 5th gen styling is just so versatile...... I mean it really brings out my boy-ish good looks, and on those days I don't shave, my rugged masculinity.
 
With the exception of the 1st and 2nd Gen 4runners, ALL Toyota SUV's look kinda soccer-mom ish. Except maybe the FJ. That's just what you get with Toyota. Toyota tries too hard to appeal to the scoccer-moms.
That's why you need a lift and larger tires. These two things vastly improve the looks of 4runners, FJs, Sequoias, L.C.s of any generation.
Just my opinion.
 
4th gen owner here. If we're speaking completely stock, I love how the 5th gen TE looks over any 4th gen. Too bad I can't afford it ._.

Same here, I had a 2nd gen and two 3rd gens and skipped the 4th...it just did not appeal to me. However, I have friends who love their 4th gen, it's just personal preference.

I will say, I might not have bought the 5th Gen it they did not offer the Trail Edition. I am not a fan of the "skirted" look of the SR5 and Limited, the just look kind of chunky to me. The SR5/Limited look kind of like that girl in highschool that would have been really hot if she lost like 15-20 lbs...then she comes back from summer break fat camp as a Trail Edition and everyone wants to bang her.
 
I've always liked 4runners.....glad I finally got one! Each generation has it's own pro's/ cons; the first and 2nd gens had the saggy butts, the 4th gen is kinda station-wagony. OK, I guess the 3rd gen is hard to fault styling wise.

I feel like the 5th gen is the first 4runner to put styling over function. The low roof-line/ high belt-line create poor visiblilty. And the "ground effects" on my SR-5 are really starting to bother me. They're totally impractical......I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before I lose a rocker-panel cover!

I think Toyota was trying to pay homage to the past 4unner models with the 5th gens blocky styling. As a guy who grew up drooling over 4runners since the 1st gen, I've gotta respect that.
 
The first time I saw the new body style...I wanted it, so I got one.

Just like when I first saw the FJC back in 2006...I wanted it, so I got one.

I hate the styling of the limited, big rims just don't do it for me. However, the trail on the other hand is a beast, and I'm looking at picking up a used one in a few years. The deleted options like the tailgate grab handle and antenna don't bother me one bit. However, I am 6'2". Don't get me wrong, I love my 4th gen and for the money I couldn't beat it
 
I love the 5th gen body style. It's one of the few real SUV's on the market with its body on frame build and it has the looks to back it up.

I also like the fact that Toyota gave it a very masculine shape. Thank you Toyota for letting me keep my man card.

Though, when I was looking for a new car, I was very much anti 4r, until I saw the 5th gen design..
 
Did the OP say "aerodynamic"? That's funny, cause this thing is a brick.

Styling is OK but I don't expect much from wagons. We had both generations of Santa Fe before we got the 4Runner so I've already demonstrated a willingness to tolerate questionably styled wagons. I can live with the 4Runner a lot better than with the Santa Fes, but that's damning with faint praise.
 
I think the 5th gen is a return to the truck-like appearance of the 3rd gens whereas the 4th gens looks more at home on the street in stock trim and have more of a standard SUV car style look. I will admit I'm not so much of a fan of the 5th gen Limited and would only consider the TE model but only because it would have off road intentions in it's future.
My wife likes the 4th gens and we could end up with one but it wouldn't see much beyond a dirt road and I'd keep my 3rd gen for that.
