I have been trying to search for my vehicle info from the VIN. Not a Carfax report, but which factory it was made at, Date of completion etc. Does anyone know a site to do this?
As you probably already know the door jamb will tell you month and year of production, not sure if actual build date is available anywhere. Nice thing about my '70 Cougar vert is I was able to get a "Marti report" which tells me the precise day of production, delivery, options, etc. Would be nice if we could get a Marti for our T4Rs
There's a little bit more info about the beginning of the VIN number in this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27067
The stuff you can get directly from the VIN itself is pretty basic. I don't know of a Web site where you can key in the VIN and get more detailed info from Toyota's database, but your dealer can do that.
Wow I'm really curious as to the "marti" of a vehicle. I heard from my honda dealer (after i had the rotors replaced and pads replaced on the ody) that if I were to buy a vehicle NOT built in Japan itself (like a Sienna, Tacoma, etc) I should ask the sales guy to translate the VIN of that particular vehicle, because my honda dealer found out that vehicles built on a Tues, Wed, and Thur tend to be the ones with lesser problems. They figured this out because there was a particular problem they were getting, and they researched it and found out that all those units were built on a Friday! So they concluded that you should avoid Mon and Fri built cars if they are made in USA.:
