vsc disconnect switch

First off I just want to start by stating I know next to nothing about automotive repair, let alone fabrication. I'm trying to learn so please be patient with me if I ask stupid questions. That said, I would really like to have the ability to disconnect the VSC or A-Trac whichever one is responsible for cutting your power when you need it in 4wd. I have a 2004 V6 4x4 SR5 and plan on installing an OME kit in a couple of weeks with the help of a friend that is much more skilled than me. I would ask him to help me with this issue, but he is a Chevy guy and knows nothing about Toyota electronics.

I have spent a couple hours researching this on several forums. What I could surmise is that the best bet is to disconnect the pressure sensor. However, I'm having trouble locating it. I have seen pictures that resemble my engine but never exactly. So I'm attaching a photo and in the photo I'm pointing to what I believe is the pressure sensor. Please help, I don't want to screw anything up.

A VSC on/off switch and an Atrac on/off switch would be my dream for this truck.

My buddy thinks it will be real easy to do. First find out the VSC wire and splice it through a stock switch in the dash , and do the same with the Atrac wire which simply would let you engage or disengage.

Wonder what would be the result.

FJ has Atrac on/off switch , other Toyotas have VSC on/off switch or you could substitute a similar switch from a Tacoma or FJ that would look totally stock.

The trucks computer is where the issue lies.
 
When I have time I am just gonna do it. I'm out of warranty, and it does, to a similar effect, what locking the center diff does. I doubt I would fry the computer, I'm not over loading it, I'm only adding a interruption of the current. I'm pretty positive it will work just fine. Except for the starting the car again issue, but I will deal with that when it comes.

What is the starting issue ?
 
VSC should be the one cutting your power in 4WD, not ATRAC, You can also turn it off by locking the Center Diff, which you can do in 4HI or 4LO.

ATAC should be braking the spinning wheel allowing the side with traction to get more power and hopefully get you out of what you are in. I don't think it will cut the engine's horsepower like the VSC will do.

I appreciate it; I just wanted to be sure. Have you tried it? Did it fix the problem for you? I'm going to check with my dealer about ordering a switch that will fit the existing port on my dashboard. Anything I can look into for anybody else while I
 
VSC is the one that cuts the power off. Can be very dangerous if pulling out into traffic when the roads are snow covered , if you give it to much gas and it senses slip it will shut power down so your tires only have enough power to keep you moving. Great idea , just needs refining.

Atrac is the one that applies slight braking to get both wheels to spin. It works awesome !!!! When stuck I've been able to get traction to all 4 wheels and get some good roosting going. ( I guess there is no need to really shut that off since its always a good positive traction thing and only kicks on after a certain RPM ) I was told. BUT the FJ has an Atrac cut off switch so I don't know what the purpose of that would be .
 
Falls, the starting issue is that you must turn the car off and then on again to get everything to work properly. Ex: Your in 2WD and wanna do some doughnuts. Simply flick the switch and VSC if off, and some warning light are on. Then your done and you flip the switch back but the warning lights are still on, BUT this is very no conclusive for now. I haven't done enough testing to make sure that is the case.

I have looked into this mod heavily, and havent quite pulled the trigger yet. If i have to restart the car its not really worth it to me... i might as well pop the hood disconect it, have my fun, and then reconect it. But i have pulled it many times and i am certain (at least on the 05s) it is the 2 wired one.
 
HAfrica13 - I'm going to have to disagree with you, I just tired this as I have done before. Removing the 3 wire plug - warning lights to come on, removing the 2 wire plug - no warning lights. In the picture of the FJ you can see there is only 1 plug coming off the front while on the 4Runner there is 2. bstevo2 you can check out this past post where gonzo installed a switch cut into the red wire. Go about 1/4 of the way down the page.

Hmm... i just went ot to check again... and i only have the one plug coming off the front of it with two wires (like the FJ). I guess they must have switched things up on the 05. So we just have different systems. Sorry about the confusion, since yours is an 04, pull the three wired plug.
 
I just went out and checked my 06 Sport V8.

I have 2 wire coming out of the plug. One is green and one is white with a black stripe.

What does each one do or control ?
