VSC disengage by switch

Sorry for not being specific about disconnecting and reconnecting the wires.

With the engine off, I disconnect the wires, then I start the engine, all the lights stay on...

Before I reconnect the wires, I turn the engine off, and then reconnect the wires and then turn the engine back on and the lights go off...

I have not tried disconnecting or connecting the wires while the engine is on. But I think I know where this is headed.
If you install a switch would you have to stop and turn the engine off and back on every time you flipped the switch?

I just tried disconnecting the plug with the engine on. the VSC will disengage while the engine is running(made sure it was disengaged by slidding around on some new snow). But when i plugged it back in while the engine was running, it did not re-engage (tires still slid freely), so i restarted it and it was back to normal. just to clear things up for you all. And ABS still works when the VSC plug is disengaged.

Yea, no problem! I'm getting a lil antsy to install this switch, but I would really like to have a way to be able to re engage the VSC without restarting the car.

I think its just that the computer gives up on trying to detect the vsc so when its plugged abck in (or turned back on as we are intending to do) it doesn't check if its there. Does that make any sense? The computer just needs to be reset... is there anyway to do this without turning of the car?

I WANT THIS!!! The car is so much more fun when VSC is off!

when I put the taco fog light switch in for my Hellas...I noticed a couple of unused wiring plugs...not sure what they are for...any chance one of these is for the VSC off switch?

btw, there are 4 slots to the left of the steering wheel for switches...what other switches go there? mine only has the diff lock...

well i know abs works in 2wd and 4Hi, and im guessing 4lo as well. but i do not know what atrac is or when is kicks in... i cant really tell the diff between that and VSC so i cant really say.

But on another note, the Taco VSC button. If that were to be installed, does anyone know the wiring for it... and wouldnt you need the OEM harness (all those easy clip on clip off wires can turn around and bite you)? This would be nice, because ou wouldnt need to restart it to re-engage it.

On mine, from left to right: AC 110V (for the AC outlet in the center armrest storage), center diff lock, blank and RSCA Off (side curtain airbag cut off switch).

I think the blank, 3rd one is TRAC off for 2WD 4Runners. Maybe 2WD owners can confirm.

ok, then, if that 3rd one is in fact for TRAC off for 2wd's, wouldnt the harness contain that plug? does toyota use the same wiring harnesses in all 4runners?

I was behind the dash of my T4R last night doing my XM install and there is definitely wiring to the 3rd and 4th blanks from the left. Where it goes, I don't know....... My guess is the wiring is pre-run during the build of every 4Runner and capped if not used.

Here is something I ran into a week ago. I was making a "Y" turn at a construction site. Hung the front wheels over the curb , couldn't back up over it because power was shutting off , rocked forward and then was able to give it a little and back up.

Check the other thread that you started. It's not that simple becuse it involves 2 different ECU's.

Ok, I just checked, it's the Auto LSD button for a 2WD 4Runner. I think most Toyota vehicles have the same wire harness regardless of features/options/trim levels. This way it makes it cheaper for manufacturing and less complication and variety of parts for a given model. So if the option isn't present, a plug isn't used or the additional segment is not added. (Foglight option on some previous gen Tacomas and Camrys had a junction higher up in the fender and a segment of wire needed to be plugged in from the fender to the bumper to complete the wiring.)

As Kmvreter mentions, I don't think adding the Auto LSD button will do anything since there are probably two different ECUs involved. One for 2WD and another for 4WD for A-TRAC, center diff lock and such. Someone with the repair manual can confirm this and correct my speculation.

I talked to my bud at the Toyota dealership...there is no plug and play way to disable vsc or atrac...
