VSC Mod AWESOME even for 2wd!!!!!! (ADDED PICS OF MY MOD)

So we went shooting today and I wanted to drive since where we were going was off of dirt trails and a little off road-ish because I haven't really tested my truck much since I lifted it and did my mods. Long story short, we met my buddy who has a raised F250 Super Duty 4x4 and followed him. As we were going on these wash outs and super soft trails up and down I told my passenger we might get stuck and crap, I forgot my tow rope. Well as I watched his truck going up and sliding back and forth and mine start kicking in TRAC, I remembered, hit the switch. Well, we made it there and back and I don't think I would have made it without help if it wasn't for this mod. To date, best mod ever. If interested, here is my link to what I did:

Not really sure. Cant find diagrams like op. :(

But I rather see his pictures, he has a 2WD, but mines an 08, hopefully the same.

My Mod works on 03' - 05' 2wds since this is what I have. I am not saying
it won't work on other models and years, but I only have and have only tested it on my configuration. The pics above are not what I used for my version of the mod but should work for others. I will get some pics tomorrow for those that my be interested.

Pictures of what needs to be done:

This is a picture of the wire and on which connector on the master brake cylinder that needs to be cut and switch installed:

You can test this before you cut by disconnecting this plug and starting your truck, you should have these lights on if correct: VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF, ABS

This is a picture showing the location of the Skid Control under the driver side dash behind the fuse block just left of the brake pedal mount bracket. I did my mod here because I didn't want to run another set of wires thru the firewall.

Simply cut the wire and attach 2 leads to your switch and done. This is a picture showing after splicing the 2 leads and connector reattached to Skid Control.

Finally a picture of the the location and switch I used.

Enjoy!

Ok, I am sorry if I sound dumb but just to be absolutely sure. I do not need to run a switch from the red wire on the brake control unit? All I have to do is find this red wire (#12) on the skid control unit, splice two wires to a switch and I'm done??? Can anybody else chime in on whether this will work on my 04 4wd?

zonianbrat, Yes, you are right about not having to run a wire from the brake control unit into the cab as it is the same wire on the skid control at pin # 12. Keep in mind that my mod works for 03'-05' 2WDs but could work on others but I don't know because that is what I have.

Fixed that for ya. 4wd has a good alternative. 2wd is where it seems like an absolute must do.

Glad it worked out so well.

JB. Thank you very much! You are right that it is a must for us 2WD guys.

yes, this is correct. i've got an 04 4wd and had to tap this wire for the VSC MOD. i just tapped into it under the hood though and ran my wire through the firewall, but yes, it is the same red wire and yes, it works on an 04 4wd.

Would pulling the plug and leaving it out of the master cylinder accomplish the same thing and just plug it back in and restart when you're done?

hearno, I would say yes you could do that but I have never tried. The only time I unplug it was just to verify that I had the right wire on the right plug.

I've wanted to do this mod forever, not sure why I never have. so easy, I just want the original switches

I believe to make it work you would need to order an FJ switch then mod it to not be momentary. (EDIT = BASED ON NEVADA'S QUESTION I REREAD A POST AND IT MAY WORK THOUGH I HAVE NEVER TRIED IT) There are threads on that so you could probably search for it. I just upgraded my switches from the originals I used to these I got for $6 a piece from a local electronics store and they fit and work perfect with no modding.
