VSC Off, ATRAC On Mod complete!

I can't really see using the VSC Off very often, but there are definitely times when you don't want engine power cut-off in low traction situations. Sometimes you just need to be able to power through.
Always good to have options.
 
heres a question, i heard that a VSC ECU may possibly be found for about 200 bux, since the 08 4r has a VSC off switch, can someone purchase an 08 VSC ECU & VSC switch & use then in an 06?

I was wondering the same thing. I always assumed if it were possibly to simply swap out the ECU, that it would be mega expensive. Though I expected it to be way more than $200 haha. That might almost be worth it for my OCD self :D

not sure if this is the case...but you introduce lots of uncertainties when swapping the ECU...it is the little things that I am thinking of....

The Keys may need to be reprogrammed....
The TPMS may also need to be reprogrammed...

Not sure what else but I would be suspicious that all of this little things may not make it worth while replacing the ECU.
 
not sure how/why the VSC ecu would have control over the keys & tpms, thought it mainly controlled the 4wd system, but i quess since everything is connected, it possible. either way i cant seem to find any info at all online, not even from toyota dealers.
 
I bet the ECUs are the same and same part# for the pre 08 runners. I would think Toyota probably just added wiring (like the mod) for the 08s and 09s with their switch. I'm far from an electrical specialist though.
 
I've got the wiring diagram for the 2006. If anyone has the wiring diagram for 2008 we could probably compare them and at least rule in or out wiring changes.
 
I said I wasn't sure...I never said it was definite...It has been my experience that you mod one thing and only after doing it you discover something else that either needs to be upgraded, changed, etc...

You don't need to justify your post Shuly, I think it's a legit point and Im glad you brought it up. I just think that for those of us who have not modded yet, we would like to know all of the available options before we actually do it.

An FYI for those considering this mod: the 2006 V6 4WD model apparently only has the harness in the dash for the factory 115V power inverter on/off switch, not the "Trac Off" harness that SSt4r found in his 2005 V8 4WD. It is a black 6-pin plug, with 5 wires. J.A. has a picture of the factory switch (and the wire colors) here. Unfortunately this makes the mod a little less "plug and play." I still plan on making the factory "VSC Off" switch I bought work, but now it will require a little more labor.

my 2007 SE V8 4x4 has the blue 6-pin connector behind the dash with 4 wires. i traced the red white whire and it goes the skid control ECU in the engine bay. weird there are variations like this, you'd think the harnesses would be the same.

as an FYI, the connector was wrapped in foam, any chance you just didn't see it or it is tucked behind something?

i just got my switch installed yesterday, i just need to cut & splice in the engine bay then test it out.
