VSC Off VSC TRAC & ABS lights

I know theres been a TON of threads like this, but the search is terrible. I changed my front/rear dif and T-case oil on sunday, dunno if its related but thought I'd toss it in. The error code popped up out of nowhere. Its only VSC off/Trac and ABS though, nothing else. It will turn on mid drive and stay on until I turn off the vehicle. The pass 2 trips it didn't turn on at all though. Stealership wants $105 just to diagnose. Hellz no.

Any ideas??

i dont know if this will help at all, but the scangauge 2 can be used to read, & clear trouble codes, turn off check engine light & alot more. good luck
 
VSC light

Hello all,

I needy your help. Last night as I was driving, suddenly the check engine light and the VSC Trac/VSC Off went on. at the same time. Do you know what is the cause of this and problem? It is a 2004 V6 4Runner...
 
I think it has to do with the YAW sensor in the console. Thats what the other sensors comment on.

I have had my '03 for just over a year and I drive about 50 miles a day to and from work, they are mostly hwy miles. What I have noticed is that when I drive my daily commute, this array of lights will toggle on and off every other day or so, haven't been able to get it down to a mileage or time amount.

When the lights are on, the traction control is DISABLED and will not work.

I have recently noticed that when my MAINT light comes on for scheduled maintenance, that the array will not come on. If I reset the Maint Light when I change the oil, the array will continue it's on/off cycle, if I don't reset it, they remain off.

So for now, for me, leaving the Maint Light on is keeping the VSC on all the time. I am still able to temporarily turn it off by the pushbutton switch.

what pushbutton? Are you saying this is caused my the maintenance light going on? My maintenance light has been on for a while now. Could that caused the VSC and check engine light to go on? From here, what should I do? thanks!
 
You should have a VSC Off button to the left of your steering wheel. On my truck, it turns the VSC off until you hit 20 MPH.

What I am saying above, is that when scheduled MAINT light comes on for normal scheduled maintenance like oil changes or others mentioned in your users manual, the VSC / Engine lights stop cycling on / off for me.
 
I don't know why, all i know is if I DON'T reset the MAINT light, the VSC / Engine lights stop acting weird. So I'm leaving it on.
 
oic. yeah i have the MAINT light on now for a while, I guess yesterday the VSC and engine came on.. so there is no problem with the car right?
 
So you are saying that your MAINT light and the VSC / Enging Lights are all on at the same time?

I am not a tech, nor an engineer, but base on what I have read, this is my guess. I think it has to do with the design of the wiring or the sensors that control the VSC. Something is upsetting the sensor and causing the system to shut off, thus turning the light on. This is a fail safe design, if anything goes wrong with the system it shuts off. I have no clue as to what the actual is problem is but I guess as long as you are ok with not having the VSC system functioning then you don't need to do anything.

It doesn't really bother me, I drove a 2 Door Explorer for over 10 years and never had any problems from it rolling over on me :)

If you are not comfortable, then I'd take it in. I'd see if you can get the diagnosis for free if you let them fix it. You might see if you can find out what the part number is for the YAW control sensor and replace that, but no guarantee's.
 
yes all 3 lights ON at the SAME TIME... what is the YAW sensor stands for? where is it located in the car? I don't understand why would VSC light come on if your MAINT light is on. Why the VSC? kind of confusing...

The Maint light is an oil change reminder only and unrelated to the VSC/CEL light.

The VSC is the sytem that helps the car recover from a skid. It uses a variety of info from the wheel speed sensors, steering wheel angle and a eletronic gyro (yaw sensor). The VSC also can reduce engine output as one of it's "tools" for correcting a skid. If there's any condition that turns on the check engine light (could be a loose gas cap, O2 sensor or any of 100 other things) the VSC shuts down and the light comes on. This is because while the CEL is lit, depending on the issue, the engine may not respond correctly to signals from the VSC. That's how a simple CEL turns on the VSC light.

As Bill suggested, assuming the gas cap is on right/tight, I'd take it in for an oil change (maint light reset too, procedure here) and to figure out why the CEL is lit. Once the CEL is out the VSC lights should go out too. Good luck!

I turned on the maintenance light myself, wow was it easy. Now my CEL light and VSC light is still on. So you recommend me take it to the dealer and get ripped off? Is there anything I can do on my own to make the lights go away? Any suggestions? thank you!

While my Maint light is on, My CEL and VSC lights will NOT come on allowing the VSC to not disable.

Do you know of any reason that would allow this scenario? I guess achen and I both need to get code readers and see what the underlying issue is that is causing the CEL to come on.

I didn't realize it was the CEL causing the VSC light to come on, I assumed that it was the other way around.

Most autoparts stores will hook up a scanner, pull the CEL code and tell you what it is. That'll give you a good place to start. My guess is you'll find something simple.

I had the same trouble and check engine lights pop on.

Yota determined that I had a faulty bank 2, sensor 2 oxygen sensor. I ordered the replacement from conicelli - the check engine light problem went away, but the VSC/Trac VSC/Off light is still on.

I've got the same issue on my '03. Nobody local seems to have the Bank 1 Sensor 2 O2 sensor that my code calls for. Conicelli's system calls them front/rear and left/right. Which is which?
 
Guys, I've been having the same occurrence. Check engine light + VSC

My truck is a 2004 4runner, about 69k miles on it...
I went to the dealership, and paid for the diagnostic check. I've attached a copy of their report. The truck pulled error code: P1056.

When I spoke with shop tech, I was advised to replace the Bank 2 Sensor 2. So I did, check the attached pic. I ordered the part from Partznet.com (conicelli) and I also swapped out the stock battery, since I was also advised that the original had 20% full load capacity. I tossed in a Die-Hard North.

And guess what, the check engine disappeared but I still have the VSC problem.

But here is what I've noticed. When I start the car up, and have it in park, there is no VSC light on. However, as soon as I toss it into reverse, to pull out of the driveway, within 3 seconds, the VSC lights pop on, and stay on.

I don't know what to do at this point. I was reading in TSB BR005-03 that the YAW sensor can easily be reset. Keep in mind that bulletin was for '03 4runners, of a particular VIN batch, with a YAW rate disfunction reading. Any ideas?
