Want to buy 190hp 3VZE... Oregon Engine Rebuilders or Raptor Engines?

Has anyone ever done business with TOYOTA 3VZE 3.0L V6 ENGINE HI-PRO 190HP/210FTLBS - $1,995.00 : Raptor Engines, 7 Year 700000 Mile Warranty
or Toyota 3VZE 3 0L "Super Stock" 4 Runner Pick Up re Man Longblock | eBay

I have read a few negative things on the internet about Raptor Engines (formerly CHS Machine) but I haven't found too much on Oregon Engine Rebuilders.
I find it odd that after searching nationwide for a high output 3VZE builder, these two places are just miles apart from each other in Oregon.

So... anyone have one of these engines?...

never heard of them, but if i remember right it should be feasible because i believe the 3.4l uses the same block as the 3.0 and the 3.4 put's out those numbers. But i'd be safe and spend that money on a 3.4l rather than a rebuilt 3.0 just my opinion though man.
 
I have researched the 3.4 swap and will not be going that route. I am going back with a 3.0, I just need to figure out which one. Thanks.
 
I've seen a lot of positive comments on Oregon on a lot of different websites. No negative ones (and you usually hear more bad than good).
Never heard of the other one.

Considering I live 15 min away from them, I have heard everything. There was a period where the owner got sick and had some people working for him that were not the best. They had issues with faulty engines due to poor assembly. The owner is back working there again from what I understand and everything is good.

One of my buddies got one of their bad engines but the owner made it right and fixed the engine free of charge.

almost makes me steer away from the 3.4 or 1uz swap when my 3.slow shets the bed...

this engine + heat wrapped headers.. would allow me to sleep a little better at night.
Knocks on wood... that my engine will not go anytime soon.
 
Could be a nice alternative to the 5VZ, but I'd like to see a dynosheet to see the power band. 210ft/lbs @ 4800 is pretty high up in the RPM range, I wonder how much grunt it has under 3000.

Don't know if this is enough to change my mind on a 1UZ.
 
Like I mentioned earlier, 3.4 would be nice but it's so much easier to keep it 3.0

I believe those are engine dyno numbers... just remember that. power at the wheels would be, well, 15-20% less. I'd love to get that on a dyno at this elevation to compare to my stock engine. that is quite the high peak torque rpm
 
OER- i have heard of bad engines from them but it could be like someone else said that the owner wasnt around. problem is even if they stand by the work, you still have to remove the engine and install another one or the same one but fixed
 
Warranties won't matter much if you don't live close. Good luck paying shipping from Texas to Oregon if there is a problem. Or better yet, pulling to motor out in order to ship it each time. It's your rig, do what you like, but you would have to put headers on it to keep the heat build up head gasket failure these motors are prone to. I would like to see a Dyno, I'm just not buying the 190Hp. Now, having had a 3.0 manual, 22re auto, 22re manual and now a 3.4 swapped manual 1st gen 4Runners, I can tell you the 3.4 is hands down the best one to drive. I'm not sure why you are so opposed to the swap, but I would rather drive a 22re than rebuild or replace a 3.0 with another 3.0. You already have the majority of the swap parts. Find a wrecked 5speed 3rd gen, take all parts to do your swap, the. Part out the rest and make your money back. And then drive a sweet, reliable, 3.4 swapped second gen.
 
1) I am not really all that concerned about how far the shipping is or doing the labor myself or the warranty rules, etc...
2) I am not concerned with actual HP/Torque numbers as much as I am interested in a quality built "higher output" 3VZE. The engines that I am referring to are the only ones I can find anywhere that are not factory stock and the money isn't that much more.
3) I do plan on spending the $600 or so on headers when I replace the engine and I have already purchased a heavy duty 3 core radiator.
4) I considered a Ford 302/AOD/Dana300 or a GM 350/700R4/NP208 swap but I really don't want to spend that much time, labor and money on this.

I am not afraid to tackle a 3.4 swap but the reason for me not to is this...
This is my wife's 4Runner and she wants to keep it automatic. That means I would have to source an entire engine/tranny/t-case and spend even more money when my current tranny/t-case are just fine. So unless I run across a smoking deal on a wrecked unit (and I am looking), I would rather just replace the engine and know what I have.

so it sounds like chs is now raptor. same power, same warranty.

Yup definitely an engine dyno result. Max power will be a little different on a chassis dyno so hopefully that torque is little lower down. 4k max torque is kinda high.

Note on that jet chips dyno post. I can't believe how terrible that is. NO dyno run is that perfect twice in a row. what a load of crap.
 
I seriously doubt it will put out 40hp more than stock... that would require some serious work... i'm guessing 160hp max.... a 3.4 only puts out 185hp stock...
 
so your wife need a 4wd? if not just do a 2wd 3.4 swap or rebuild your current 3.0? what is wrong with it anyways

Yes, we actually do use the four wheel drive quite a bit. especially when we go surf cast fishing down at the beach.
I haven't found any machine shops around the San Antonio, Texas area that seem to be "experts" on the 3VZE. I just want to buy (or rebuild) the best engine I can for a fair price.
 
Find the oldest guy at a Toyota dealer and see if he wants to do it on the side. Heck any Toyota tech that has done it and is willing.
