Want to Start a 5th Gen Build.. ICON Anyone?

I'm moving out to Kansas next year which is going to put my fiancée and I within range of traveling to all the incredible National Parks out there.

I have a 2016 Trail with KDSS, and I want to invest in a full ICON kit, stage 1 I'm thinking with the track bar. Anybody here have that installed on their KDSS having any issues down the road?

Mine is all stock now, but I'd like to methodically pick away at mods. Suspension, tires, roof rack, lighting etc.

Anybody with RECENT info on the Icon stage 1 (or 2) and their KDSS would be appreciated. I've looked through tons of threads here, and mainly I'm concerned with KDSS issues that appear during installation, or further down the road. Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at more value oriented options aside from ICON? Do you want to deal with the additional long term maintenance of a rebuildable shock? I would save your money or at least cover the basics first (1st 2 below)

You don't need to have Icon's to tour the National Parks. Plus the topic of lifts and KDSS has been discussed many times before.

I'll just throw in my experience. I've got an ICON Stage 5 kit installed by a reputable shop and I've had no issues at all related to KDSS.

I just had an Icon stage 2 installed a few days ago. I would suggest going at least a stage 2. On my previous 4 runner I had the stage 1 installed and It never looked right. The nose had a significant rake. Not to mention the alignment was never spot on because of the lift.

With the stage 2 you can get the vehicle as close to level unless you plan on towing then you can adjust the front coils down so your not looking up in the sky when your towing. Since the vehicle is going to be apart anyways, you might as well pony for the upper control arms.

I have a stage 2 kit installed and am very happy with it. I had the same setup on my FJ.

It's not a bad option.

This is true, but I was wondering more along the lines of nagging issues that occur later after people have put some miles on them. I only want to upgrade suspension once. Contrary to popular belief about newer forum members, I have combed most of the suspension threads thoroughly, but when there's 5 generations of 4Runners and many manufacturers, sometimes it's difficult to pinpoint an exact match of what I wish to do.

Not trying to cause any problems. Just trying to bring out the KDSS and ICON combo guys from the woodwork. So thanks everyone for chiming in about your builds. :cheers:
