Warn Claims Synthetic Rope to be replaced every 12 months

I just went through a nice warranty dispute with warn over my m8000 synthetic line breaking. After *****ing moaning and breaking my balls I got them to replace the line after submitting about 7 pictures of the break for any and all angles they went over and determined it was faulty. They then had the audacity to tell me that their synthetic line is to be replaced every 12 months due to UV exposure. Just think again before you go synthetic. They should have to disclose this!:thumb:

If it's UV exposure that's destroying it, then go with another company that makes synthetic rope that has a UV protectant in it. Or if you like the Warn brand, buy or make a winch cover so it's not so exposed all the time.
 
There are a lot of other high end brands out there and this story kind of makes me want to steer clear of warn ropes if I am ever in the market.
 
Not to mention they over charge for their rope. If I spend that kind of money on my next synthetic it will be a Master Pull line.
 
you guys love your synthetic lines, and i have been singing this song and dance from day one with synthetic.... it will not hold up to steel, end of story. you guys all want longevity and durability but no one wants the other side of the coin, the weight... i do think Master Pull or AmSteel Blue is the best stuff out there, but the only issues with it is, the cost, and the fragility of it, you cant let it get in the mud, or dirt, cant let it drag over anything, cant let road spray or oils/chemicals get on it, and UV still affects it(just not as much as others).... so whats the attraction here? oh the cost and the ability to spool it up how ever you want?(you cant even really do that you can damage synthetic by not spooling it correctly also fyi). i guess the only other attraction is when the line snaps it wont store energy like the steel counter part. -but then again put hald the effort into taking care of your steel line and it should never snap, dont be a idiot and pinch the line or kink it and it will never fail under normal use -youll at least get 15 years out of it.

unless your a race team that is looking to shave weight every possible place you can, and the budget is really no option and you can and plan on replacing the line after every event then i see no reason to buy synthetic. i can and have dragged my line through the mud, oil spills, broken glass from windows, rocks, trees, dirt and dust and had the line driven over and stepped on pushing it down into the mud, and then pulled and pulled. i have never had a steel line break or get damaged. i always spool it up nice and neatly at the end of the day and keep it under slight tension. and if it breaks well im only out $80-100 for new line.

stop your whining and accept the issues and draw backs of your high maint equipment. sorry to sound like a jerk or a$$hat, but come one, Warn comped you a new line that they didnt have to do, id say thats pretty good customer service. they also clearly put out their recommended service/replacement intervals. they have short life spans to save them from someone like you guys sueing them. does the line really need to be replaced every year? no probably not if you take care of it, i know a couple friends who have synthetic lines, and have been running the same line for about 5 years, although their lines look like butt and are frayed on the outside they still work. they work because they take care of them, they wash and clean their line after every trip, the spool it nice and neatly, the take care not to drag their line over rocks, trees, through the mud ect. its a lot more work than i care to put into it. on average they spend about an hour to hour and a half cleaning their line after every trip/use and then have to hang it up in the garage to let it air dry for a couple of days before installing it again. they all say its a big PITA and if they did it over again they would go with steel.


sorry for getting on my soapbox but someone had to say it. may as well be me -ill be expecting the hate mail shortly...:bored:
 
as has been said, im sure its to avoid litigation against breakage.

still, rope is expensive, theres no way I can see replacing once a year.
like I said before, I can buy another winch for the price of rope.

i'll stick with my cable thanks.
 
In order to ensure utmost reliability, it is imperative you guys stick to the 1 year replacement guideline set forth by WARN. Please contact me every year and I'll do you guys a favor by collecting the used lines from you free of charge :behindsofa:
 
Now I have to say this ended extremely well I honestly thought I was Jolly Well ****ed, but I got my replacement today and boy was I impressed. The Warn Rep sent me not only a courtesy replacement 100ft 3/8 synthetic line. they sent me an entire kit, with new Warn Hook, New Warn FairLead, New Warn Rock Abrasion Guard and mounts. I was throughly impressed I thought I was getting just a rope replacement only.! I almost could not believe it. They definitely stand behind their product. I not going to even Lie my old line broke off about 18-20 feet from the lead and with a guide I found on pirate4x4 I was able to completely fix my old one essentially as good as new. They definitely stand behind their product. But I mean my winch line was 8months old max and was manufactured within the last 10 months.

on another note the day I called warn the rep was literally replacing multiple synthetic ropes for free he had me mistaken for different customers that were also getting replacements

install is a cake walk, actually had to do it twice to install the abrasion guard correctly. my last one didn't come with one from them.

I like some of your home made covers but I store the vehicle inside so no need for a cover.

I want to go back to steel after this one breaks. I was thinking about just selling this new one on ebay and buying a steel roller I have my steel cable but I need the metal roller.

steel is the business, shit don't break unless its crazy stressed, the rope is a joke it just looks fancy its for those rich guys with pavement princesses, lol. Give em to somebody like me who will put the synthetic to the test on the trails in the rocks/snow/mud and the shit don't even last 8 months. Kind of a joke. With the way products are regulated and pulled off the self now and days along with how many bad reviews and people breaking these things I have read about in toyota jeep and other forums online it seems to be quite the problem. I smell a class action lawsuit coming on lol jk but it seems to be an issue steel cable is the only way to do it. Not going to lie this synthetic cable BS is straight baby gap bullshit... anyone want to by my new rope for $200 lol:thanks:

I used mine about 6-8 times a month and it lasted not even a year, and I was babying that line, like it was a child, always wound it nice, never let it drag and I park inside every night and this is a weekend car not a DD so it just sits in the garage not exposed to the weather elements :(

i just put on my warn sydura into my vr10000 yesterday. for $235 there is nothing else name brand on the market that comes close. Engo is 85ft so that doesnt count, LOL

i also installed my line twice too, same reason...abrasion guard lol

lets see how it holds up over this year.
 
From reading this thread, I think I will continue to run with my 100ft AmSteel Blue rope for now till it breaks. Then I'll go back to the cable that originally came with my Warn VR10000.
