Warn Zeon Platnium T4R?

I've been looking at the 9.5 XP-S to fit in the new SSS bumper since it's close to the dimensions of the Comeup DV9 the have recommended. I've been hesitating to pull the trigger since its pricey and there is a lot of choices.

Just got of the phone with Warn and the CS rep said this new unit blows the doors off the XP series for an extra C note. Ran a search and couldn't find anyone thinking of adding one to the 4R. Although the new "Platnium" version won't be available until January.

Must admit having a wireless unit with zero controls on the winch seems appealing with hidden hitch install.

Thoughts?

Pretty sweet on paper That remote is pretty cool, I like the idea behind it, battery monitor, motor temp, clutch button (which I am not to sure about) I guess we'll see how reliable it is to have electronic clutch control, I seem a little skeptical about that.

But geezus msrp is $2500 for the 10k-S! So real cost $1800~! For that much money I would look at buying a worm drive. That just seems stupid expensive for a 3s planetary gear winch setup.

Pretty sure you're going to need the solenoid relocation kit for the Zeon, which is another extra cost unless you're getting some custom open bumper. It's a pretty big winch. And I'm on the other side of the spectrum with the wireless remote. I trust a wired remote a lot more, so make sure it comes with both if the batteries die, the wireless signal doesn't trigger the winch, or you drop it in a puddle.

Agreed, seems like one more gizmo to fail. Reliability is critical for my application, while I like the conveniences this is a concern. Warn said it's extensively tested and exceeds the "Warn" expectations. Lol, what else would you expect him to say.:horn:

$1,749 is the going rate, found one (ordering) for $1,700. However the old tried, tested, true 9.5 XP-S is $1,600 with basic wired remote. Either way both leave lint in the bottom of your pocket compared to many others. Warn seems pretty confident in their product, or at least their name.arty:

Correct, they have a 32" or 71" relocation kit, I would definitely need one for Slimline Hybrid. Another 100+

Superwinchs option you can simply pop the plug and use a wired remote. I am not set on a full wireless system either.

Oh, and just to add to the thread... I have a 9.5 xp-s. It's perfectly capable for pulling our trucks out of pretty much anything. It's also pretty fast. First time I ever used it was to pull an HDJ81 out of some deep snow and it had no issues. I also used it to pull 5 vehicles in a row through this mud hole.

Rule of thumb is 1.5 times your GVW.

I went a 12.5 simply because it was only $70 more than the 10k, same winch bigger motor, came with a 3/8 rope, and it doesn't have to work as hard.

Realistically an 8k should be sufficient.

Which model do you have?

Agreed, not a huge price difference, but I'm trying to limit weight. I noticed with most of the Warns it looks like 18-24 lbs more on the 12k units. May not be much for most, but I'm looking to add a smaller bumper, aluminum rails and lighter weight mods where possible.

I had nearly bought a Zeon 10. I had been researching and pricing them since last year. The last winch I bought was a Ramsey 8000 in 1994, it lasted that long (I tore it down, cleaned and regreased it a couple of times), it went away with my old 22re STD Dlx. So I was due for some refreshed winch data. No doubt Warn makes nice stuff... just at a premium price.

Mine with 80' 3/8' wire rope give or take a couple is ~95lbs, its shipping weight was 110. It will accept silly rope and you can lose a bunch of weight. I just rather have the durability of wire. You can beat the crap out of it and it keeps on ticking, cheap to replace too.

Any idea what the height is on the Talon 12.5 with relocate kit? I know Kevin said the SSS is tight on height, with the DV9 he's using at "7.5, the Zeon is 7.7, figured I could make that work.

No as they only show spec with solenoid mounted or height without the clutch lever. It looks like it would be similar height though. But for $1015 for the 12,500 with synthetic cable and a fully sealed winch it's hard to pass it up. The 9,500 version is only a few bucks cheaper at $985.


Looking at the DV-6s and DV-12s light specs though I wouldn't be surprised if the Talon height isn't the same once you take the solenoid off. Pretty sure come up makes the Talon for superwinch. Just wish the come up winches had the seals that the talons do.

Without the Solenoid attached it is just about 7.25 to the top of the clutch handle, you have to lift and turn the clutch it goes up roughly 1/2" inch. I relocated my solenoid.
