Warranty Question

(My apologies if this is not in the correct forum)

Recently I have taken the 2011 4R to the dealership to perform the 20K mile maintenance which I believe the major part is an oil change and a check up on all systems. During the past few weeks the truck has gotten a horrible steering wheel vibration under braking, which I believe was braking related.

The oil change and the regular inspection was under toyota care, so it was "free".

Anyways, the dealership has billed me for the following,
04465-60320 PAD KIT, DISC BRAKE 60.95
10121 BRAKE & PARTS WASH 5.99

and obviously labor at $210 :lmao:

and most interesting part is that they racked up just one mile on the truck to determine the problem and confirm that problem no longer exists.


So my question is,
Are the brakes covered under the warranty (36k, 36mo, or whatever it is)or have I have been ripped off? or are they excluded?

Brake pads, drums, rotors, linings are typically non covered items. Did you authorize the repair or ask them to determine the problem then call you before the repairs were made? Btw, I have ~36k and have not even thought about my brakes.

I had just asked them to repair the problem. No calls were made.

Did the vibration start before or after the service? Did anyone else have the wheels off before the vibration started?

The only similar experience I have was with my CR-V after getting a new tire from Sears. The "tecnician" used an impact wrench to tighten the lug nuts & skipped the whole torque process thereby warping both of the front rotors. No problems before the service; horrible vibration immediately after especially during braking. The manager swore up & down that they "always use torque wrenches" and that my warped rotors probably happened because of hard braking followed by being immersed in rain water or something similar.

Of course, if the brake pads fixed your problem then it probably isn't the rotors.

I don't think warranty covers "consumable" parts like brake pads/filters/etc.

I've got about 26k on mine and the pads are still nice & thick.
