Weight of a lift gate for a 2011 TE

Someone attempted to custom fabricate a ladder for my 2011 4Runner TE and did A LOT of damage in the process. He's trying to fix it and wanted to know if I knew what the physical weight of the lift gate should be.

Since I don't know, I thought I'd ask!

Especially if I ever want the gate to weather seal again...:pray:

If you don't find an answer:

Disengage the support mounts
Stand on a bathroom scale while holding the lift gate parallel with the ground and record results
Weigh yourself without holding anything
Double the difference

This will give you a rough approximation of the weight of the lift gate.

That would only be accurate if the top was as heavy as the bottom.
 
Oh come on Greg, you're slipping...I was totally expecting a page full of formulas to calculate the weight down to the 0.01 lbs when I clicked this thread and saw that you posted, lol.

OP, if I may ask, why does the fabricator need to know how heavy the door is to fix what he/she screwed up? Maybe it might be wise to visit a professional body shop and have the fabricator pickup the tab? Sorry, I am a pessimist and just feel like if you couldn't do the job properly to begin with, you probably can't fix it any better either :( I hope you get this resolved though!

I was just trying to help out. I thought "Hmmm, maybe he has not thought of this so I will give him an idea." The proper way is just take the thing off and put it on a scale. Oh, I really liked your idea and input too. What was that? You had no idea? *crickets*

Take it off and weigh yourself. Or call an online toyota parts dealer and ask for a shipping weight.:shocked:

But the first one is kinda logical, i didn't think that needed to be mentioned.
