What air filter does everyone run

I recently went from K&N back to a paper (STP brand) filter - and now and getting 40 miles less per tank.

Was at 280 now I'm at 240.

It's extremely hard to believe that a filter change caused that. I'd be looking for something else wrong if I were you.

Any ideas? That's the only thing I've changed. Driving habits are the same.
I def need a new fuel filter.

Stop measuring mpg by the tank. Do miles driven over gallons consumed from one fill-up to the next, filling exactly the same way. Just doing it by the tank is too imprecise.

OEM air filter here as well. One of the 1st things I changed along with the original radiator and thermostat when I got the truck recently. Next is the OEM fuel filter (I wonder how clogged up it is from having 230K miles on it!) Hoping for some increase in MPG but not holding my breath...

Can ultra or scan gauge measure your gallons consumed? Or is it a moot point because they give mpg already?

I had a microgard air filter and changed it out with a Wix. There is a significant difference in how tightly the WIX fits versus the Microgard but the paper elements looked the same.

I have always run k&n. I do have them in both 4runners as it is sort of muscle memory to order them with any of my cars.

However going with wix or denso / would be just fine and a smart choice. I just hate to add more junk to the landfills changing paper ones out every 30K or so. So with this, I do not mind cleaning the K&N filters. (I do not run k&n thinking I will gain an ounce of performance or MPG to note)
