Anyone installed Kappas on a *2014* T4R?
Has anyone tried installing Infinity Kappa 32.9cf's on a *2014* T4R TE?
In dashboard of course.
Just wondering if there's any significant differences in the amount of space to fit the speaker in, and if all the previous comments on installation should still apply.

I picked up a pair of these from another member back in January, finally got them (damn customs) and installed. At first I had a significant amount of popping at any volume above 24. I reworked the brackets with a piece of aluminum and added some washers on both ends and it sounds outstanding.
Slight popping exists when all of these variables are in play: 1. Volume is above 45- 2. Vehicle is in motion and going over a bump- 3. Listening to bass heavy tracks. I think by eliminating the second variable I should eliminate the problem. I will add some foam between the speaker and all the metal parts and see if that helps.
The vast majority of the music I listen to does not have a great deal of bass, so not a big deal, but when I do consume it I want it to sound as clear as possible with the current setup.
I did buy some Bass Blockers, but once I changed the bracket it eliminated (for the most part) the problem so I will return them. Even if I can't eliminate the popping at 45+sound, while driving and listening to bass, I'll just turn it down a bit.

Just installed infinity 3.5" reference 3002cfx in my new 2014 trail, couldn't find the Kappas. There is no noticeable difference that I can hear and they sound great! I learned from my previous 2011 SR5 that the bass blockers were necessary. No matter what I did I still got the popping at high volume with the bass. However you don't want to block to high of a frequency so I went with 398 mfd blockers that are supposed to only block 150 hz @ 3ohms. They sound great with full range sound at full volume with very little distortion and no popping or cracking!

Not too many 3.5" coaxials out there. The ones I know of are JL C2, JBL and Infinity Reference. They all sound decent and can sound very good with good install and tuning.
Any idea which of those would work best with the JBL system?

I really don't know. I used Infinity Kappas and they are a little bright sounding but still a lot better than the stock JBLs. The Infinity's are quite efficient but still play a little softer than the stock speakers. A few people have said they like the JLs. I think any aftermarket that fits will be an improvement. The stock coaxials are JBL but they are really, really cheaply made and have a muddy, muffled sound compared to the Infinitys. I ordered mine from Amazon. They were so inexpensive I did not mind just trying them out. Luckily they sounded pretty good so I did not shop around for anything else.

I just looked at Crutchfield's site and they are quite a few inexpensive 3.5" coaxials to choose from. Something to consider is mounting depth. It's pretty tight. Check the specs on the Infinitys. Anything deeper than that may be a problem.

As an FYI, you may want to check the height of the protrusion (tweeter?) on the top of those JBL speakers. It may interfere with the factory plastic grill that goes over the dash speakers.

I'm a fan of getting as much bandwidth as you can from the dash speakers and then properly crossing over to a capable midbass in the doors. Thus I opted for a 4" point-source 2-Way (not a coax, but a true "Point Source" 2-way), but it required some mounting fabrication of the factory dash panels. I chose the lovely Morel Hybrid Integra 402.
Hard to beat them in our T4R's dash application for serious "audio dudes" (hate the term "Audiophile" - those guys are a bunch of gullible fools!), but they certainly ain't cheap. I cross them in @ 315Hz, and they handle all of 150WRMS per channel just fine as long as you keep it clean. You can cross them in lower (200Hz) if you are very careful with listening habiots, or if you have a lot less power. I like it clean and loud - so my 315Hz turnover with 150WRMS keeps thermal power handling in check, and still allows a good sounding hand-off to the midbass in the doors IMO.
Sound Quality and imaging is impressive off the windshield IMO (the mid and tweet are naturally time-aligned due to the point-source design, and the modified mount/ring still shields the direct radiated sound from reaching my ears so no comb filtering is observed). Toyota's engineers even designed speaker placement so the Left Dash and Left Door speakers are equidistant and the Right Dash and Right Door speakers are equidistant from the front-seat listening positions (if you include the reflected distance of the dash speakers off the windshield). I was a little shocked (in a pleasant way) when I discovered this while measuring driver distances for DSP time alignment.
Then, you can fit a huge 9" midbass in the door and still hide it behind the factory door panel! I chose the Morel Elate 9" here (only used the 9" woofer from the 2-way system), and I don't regret it. Add some subs, and you are rockin' with the best of them!
The T4R is a very nice platform for serious audio IMO. It's the best audio environment in a vehicle I've had to date (been into high-end car audio since 1991 or so). The Audio system potential of our 5th Gen T4R's is actually what swayed me to buy a '13 T4R over a '12 Tacoma 4-Door (no room in that thing!). I'm so glad I did!

I just upgraded the entire system in my TRD Pro and it sounds amazing!
I went with the:
Hertz HSK 165XL speakers for the front- put the tweeters in the dash where the 3" crappy ones were. The 6.5 woofers in the door
Hertz HCX 165 Coax speakers in the rear doors
Audison Bit one processor
Hertz HDP4 amp to power the front woofer and bridged to the sub in back
Hertz HCP4D amp to power the tweeters and rear doors
JL Audio 12w3v3 sub for the back
I also dynamatted the doors.
Full system run active. Sounds like the band is playing right in front of me! I have no idea how Randyman does it with even more mid bass and bass. My Hertz woofers and JL sub have to be tamed a bit to keep the doors from shaking off.
Pricey but well worth it
