what an unbelievable difference! - kappa 3.5 dash speakers

yea, i'm looking to replace those upper dash JBL speakers.. from what i've read.. it seems if you don't wanna spend much but want a little more clarity, that that's what i should focus on first.. BUT... what speakers do we buy now that takes no modification/fitting or VERY MINIMAL fitting

nothing yet bud.. i did talk to a local audio installer i've known for years and he said he'd make the JBL GTO329? the 3.5" fit with some trimming.
so until i hear about a 3.5" that drops in with VERY minimal trimming IF any.. then i might go that route
I just finished with the MTX's and the difference is amazing. I always thought the high end was a bit muddled in the 4Runner and now everything is crisp and clear. I had to recut both metal brackets and use them for mounts. The objective being to keep the speaker basket as far away from the body sheet metal as possible.
You'll also need some rubber or foam to put between the sheet metal and your speaker just in case. I have some 1" gasket rubber used for sealing camper shells to truck beds that worked great.
My only complaint is that the MTX's a VERY sensitive. At the lowest volume levels they are decently loud and I'm barely able to hear any other speakers. Really biased the staging forward so we'll see if I get used to it.

Sure does look like it. They're certainly not the stock speakers.

yeah, that's the Kappa. for some reason the previous owner hacked up the shroud (to reduce its profile/make it clear the grille) instead of just removing it entirely. that plastic ring twists right off with nominal pressure. it also looks like they angled it slightly? odd.Can someone tell me if i already have the Kappas? Lol

Yeah something made me pull the cover and check. After sitting in another t4r and listening to its stock system i knew something was up. I have waaaaay more low end in my front stage so my door speakers arent stock either but i don't feel like pulling the panels just to check lol.

JL C2-350X 3.5in Dash Speakers
Just installed JL C2-350X in my 2015 SR5 (non-JBL) and I am completely blown away with how amazing they sound! They are powered off my Pioneer AVH4000-NEX head unit. Got them for $58 on Amazon, Money well spent!
Install was very simple, cut the factory wires and used quick splice connectors to wire the new speakers. I wired them with a 300Hz Bass blocker to the positive wire.
Factory dash speaker and wires- cut all 4 wires on each speaker, and twisted each Pos. & Neg wire together.
Used Male & Female quick splice connectors
Bass blockers wired to the Positive side on each speaker
I used these small little metal plate brackets (just a straight strip of metal w/ 3 holes in it) and they worked perfect! Only one bracket needed per side, then pivot the speaker so the holes line up. Also, surrounded the speaker with foam to prevent any buzzing.
Used a dremel to shave off the plastic ring on the inside of the dash cover, this prevents the speaker from contacting any plastic.

2011 JBL dash speaker difference
So iwas going to wire the quick and painless way of prying the oem blue crossover like in post #162 but i cannot because my speaker is different.
My plug coming from the truck only has two wires instead of 4 like everyone else.
Please help.. has anyone else ran into this?

Completed a full speaker swap this weekend on a 2015 SR5 and couldn't be happier. Alpine speakers throughout with the exception of JL Audio 3.5s in the dash. Factory speakers were absolute trash!
