Okay, just a quick update.

I wound up keeping the mending brace on the passenger side, but I had to reverse it's direction. So, if you are sitting in the passenger seat, I put the mending brace on the right side of the speaker going towards the windshield.

This should line it up with the factory mount hole. The left side has no mounting brace, it just screws in to the factory hole.

I had it this way originally, but it caused the speaker to be tweaked at a weird angle. So, I undid it and just used one screw as I mentioned above. Well, that caused the cover to hit the speaker slightly. I could see a little bulge on the left side of the speaker grill.

I had to finagle the speaker until it fit pretty much level. I was happy with the position and tightened it all down.

Oh yeah, for the insulation (to keep the speaker from contacting the metal of the dask on the passenger's side) I used the bottom of a plastic Dixie cup. It works great so far. I may go in later and tape it down so it's secure, but it's not rattling or anything.

So there you go. My first real mod, and it only took 2 days. LMAO

X2. Installed mine today. What a difference in quality! . . .Had more problems with driver's side than passenger side. Thanks for all the helpful insights.

Wow, that killed an afternoon. I started messing with the stock mounting brackets and trying to get the kappas to fit. That didn't happen, so I went to Home Depot and did Reklov's install. So far, everything sounds great, very happy. I spent the evening listening to music on the new Kappas. Thanks for the write ups guys.:bravo:

"By the way, I also added 2 DVC 8" 200W RMS bazooka tubes in the back that fit beatifully. I powered the subs with an amp located under the passenger seat. The amp taps into the rear speaker leads of the OEM stereo. This things have big boom for very little $$.

My write up on the AMP + SUB install will be coming shortly. Overall, I've spent $360 bucks, preserved the OEM appearance, and now my wife has amazing sound that blows away the JBL systems at a fraction of the cost."

I'm looking for a bit more, but I'm such a novice it needs to be very easy to install.

I know everyone runs party mode, but have you ran it and sat in the back seat? It sounds like ass. I only run PM when there's nobody in the back seat now. A sub would help a lot.

I just installed my Kappas yesterday. It went pretty smooth. I had to take the plastic ring off of the passenger side speaker and push down the plastic above the vent to get it to sit but it went in without any real issue. It makes a huge difference compared to stock. I can now hear all the vocals in the rock songs without the heavy sections drowning them out.

I just wanted to thank you guys for the tips and headway you made. I took all your advice from the beginning and it made the install a breeze.

Infinity Kappa 32.9 mod done!!

I just finished installing the Infinity kappa's today. Thanks to all that gave their experience on this one.

One side note, I had waaay more trouble on the drivers side than the passenger side. Even afer the speaker was in, I still had most of the problems that many others had commented on and wanted to lend my findings and opinion on. These opinions in no way discount what anyone else has done I'm just trying to add some food for thought to future moders

1: after installing the drivers side speaker there was a definate vibration sound. I pulled off the Black ring that is attached to the speaker thinking it was hitting the cover and that wasn't it. I then took the cover off again and shaved the plastic ring on the cover down to nothing with a sharp knife. then all was well with the vibration sound.. Cranked some tunes and then next thing you know it's starts to pop a little... Damn!!!! .. I took the cover back off and placed some foam backing on the metal piece behind the speaker next to the windshield and now all is well.. sounds awesome!!!

2: I didn't use bass blockers like others have. I listen to rock and hard rock mostly and the speakers worked fine for me even with the volume over 40 so I don't know if anyone else doing the install will need them or not but they sound great without any cracking or popping or anything else even above 40.

3: In hind sight, If your'e going to do this mod read what others have done, learn from their findings, Prepare all your materials. and don't try to take short cuts. Use your best judgement. Remember, different people have different levels of skill whats easy to some isn't as easy to others.

I've been a long-time lurker of this forum and admirer of all your trucks. Just bought my first T4R (after a long line of small sporty cars) a few weeks ago and have been absolutely loving it. Just completed this as my first mod, but couldn't have done it without every one's advice and experiences, especially darkdane. Thanks everyone! Now on to the big stuff!

hey guys thanks for your tips and advice for the speakers. I tried installing the speakers two days ago. I used dark dane's write up for the wiring. Everything went smoothly. I shaved down the speaker ring and everything fits pretty well. The only problem I have is the popping and static noises when I go past 20 on the volume. It's really bad on songs that have a lot of bass to it. I notice that the static and popping noises are even worst while I'm driving rather when the car is in park. I tried repositioning the speakers, put electrical tape on the metal frame on the inside of the speaker space, and even tried putting a piece of foam covered with electrical tape the prevent the speaker from touching the metal frame. I tried looking at the areas where the speaker might be hitting the frame but I don't really see anything. I'm I suppose to fabricate something to cover under and all of the sides of the speakers? right now it's just covering just the side that is towards the wind shield. Is it that my music has too much bass in it? Is it that the speakers are defective??? I wanted to ask everyone for their advise and experience with this mod. I'm getting pretty frustrated with the noise that the speakers are creating. Thanks for your input everyone.

Did you damage any part of the speaker when you were trimming? If not, you could try to add the bass blockers. Some guys on here said they had to. I think theres even a write up about it somewhere in this thread. I was lucky and don't have that problem but I would try that first. If you still have the issue it might be the speakers.

thanks for your input cowaggon. the speakers look intact. I think I'll try to add the bass blockers. Is there any way to add them with using darkdane's method of wiring? I'll prefer not to hack into the factory wires if possible because i'm not really comfortable to installing speakers but if I have to, a man's got to do what a man's got to do hahahaha.

Even with the crossovers, bass blockers are still needed. I had the same popping problem as have a good deal others here and the bass blockers fix it every time. I think they are about $10 for a pair.

I ordered the 150 hz pair from crutchfield but I think Best Buy has them also. I know that others here have used ones with different cutoff frequencies but these are what were recommended to me. I simply spliced into the positive lead to each speaker, dropped the bass blockers in and taped up the connections. They are non directional so no concerns about which way they drop in. After I did that, I now really love those little speakers.
