What are the best brake pads and rotor for 97 4wd w/ 16" wheels

I don't ever do off roading or anything like that. I drive fast on these wide open roads here in Cali and need great breaks that don't squeak! Any Ideas? ALSO, WHERE is the cheapest place to buy these. I'm looking for front pads and rotors. I guess I also could do the rear but I have never messed with the rear drums... thanks, AT

If you drive fast on wide-open roads and don't do any off-roading, there are better choices than the 4Runner. Any cross-over SUV's (CX7, RDX, etc.) will handle way better and ride smoother than the 4Runner.

But to answer your question, I'd just get some rotors from Autozone (Duralast with 2 yr. warranty) and some ceramic pads. People recommend Hawk LTS pads. I just used the Autozone ceramics with lifetime warranty. Much better bite than the OEM. Put some anti-squeal lube on the pads and you're good to go. Mine have never squeaked.

I replaced my rotors and pads. I got the slotted and drilled ones that are made by power stop. They have different brake pads available from them depending on what you want. I think the company was autoanything.com. The rotors were I think about $120 to maybe 140 each. I did have to bend the vent shield by the rotor because it rubbed slightly but after that it was quiet. I love them and think they are great. I wanted some good ones in case my trailer brakes went out.

Please read the other threads covering this topic. The slotted and drilled rotors do NOT help in performance. In fact, they decrease the surface area of the rotors, thus HURTING the performance. They do not help in cooling of the rotors, contrary to what people may think. They are also prone to cracking, because the areas are weaker where the drilling was done. The only thing that they do is leave you a bit poorer.

Your biggest difference will be in pads.

Not slotted or drilled . 25488 I think is part number

Toyota upgrade pads part #04465-35240 (check your fittment-mine is a 99 yours is a 97)

I highly recommend this combination. I am not a mechanic, but this was the combo I came up with after reading through here and YotaTech. My stopping distances are signficantly reduced, though I have not yet figured out a way to calculate/prove same.

Be sure to have your rears checked at the same time and your parking brake tightened up. If your rears are not doing their fair share of the braking then your fronts will be over-worked.
