Yeah, top speed, but the engineering of the suspension, handling and all that is what I'm saying.
WHAT ARE THE FAST THAT A 4RUNNER CAN GO ?(higher velocity)

Well, I picked 90 mph, but I got my old '96 up around 95 mph or so, probably a little more. Was more intent on driving and not hitting anything going that fast than looking at the speedo.
I was in a caravan of vehicles heading back to Florida from somewhere north.
The truck had plenty of ass left in it.
I have had my Wife's '97 to around 90 ish on a long trip. Again, plenty of get up and go left.
Both vehicles rode smooth and felt good.
Then again, I have had my '67 Impala convertible that fast too, but it was not exactly fun. Lots of pedal left to go, but the suspension was too tired to keep it up for long.

one day i was going out to the gun range (about 2 miles straight road) and i said f*** it and floored it for most of the way. i was going a tad over 100 and hit a small crest in the road. my rear tires got airborne. i just about shat myself after i slowed down and realized i could have died.
havent gone past 80 since.
this is in mph btw. and after instaling my 5 ft cb and roof rack i cant go over 95

Wow... I've only had my 4runner for 3 weeks but seeing how fast this thing can go is not on my list "EVER".
The pick up is... well... like an SUV.
The people who say 120-150mph... I don't think so.
I just sold a 300+whp car built for the track with a 0-60 sub 4.5secs... 150mph is fast as stink.
Toyota would be shouting this fact from the roof tops in every advertisement if this thing could go that fast.
Sorry... besides being completely unsafe... I'm calling this bogus.

weight for tires of teh same size one being a mud tire and one being an at.
a bigger tire is worse gas mileage because the engine uses more energy to make a longer revolution of the tire. longer rotation around the axle/hub this is why you need to regear also when going to a bigger tire (when you get too big).
as the extra energies end result will be higher rpms and poorer fuel eco.

Larger tire is heavier and more rotational mass= means more energy to move it. Also as mentioned generally a mud terrain of same size is heavier then an AT. Another factor is a MT is softer rubber and creates for friction with the road surface increasing the need for more power.
Now so far the fastest I have taken my 4Runner is right at the 100 mark and I dont think it had much left.

even though i supercharged my T4R i think the fastest i ever drove it (top speed) was in the low 80's. Anytime i go up about 75 MPH i feel like it's just too fast for the 4runner and our trucks are just not made for it. On some days, driving along I-75 i feel uncomfortable even going the speed limit 70 MPH because the wind combined with our narrow and high body make control difficult for me.
I put the SC in mostly to give it passing and on-ramp kinda power because my Mom had a Landcruiser and we all loved everything about it except when we were driving along and needed to pass a truck the thing would take forever and a day. But, i don't drive it fast fast and i would never try to take corners hard in it.
I drive with stock suspension - no lifts, no oversized tires, and have goodyear fortera's.
I also think the stock setup is a bit different between 2 and 4WD T4R's as in ground clearance, height, etc., which could make a 2WD more stable at high speeds.

I got my 97 close to 110 mph on my way to needles. That was back in the day when it was not lifted and had sway bars. going that fast was stupid. I have a stick and it had at least another 1000 rpms before redline in 5th. I wouldn't even push 90 now with out the front sway bar, but its fine at 80

Back in 2001 I had a built 1970 Mustang Mach 1. It had 4.11 gears, tremmec TKO 5spd (overdrive) and a very nice 351 Cleveland engine that I had alot of $$ in (fuel injected). This was one bad a$$ car. I raced one of those LS-6 Trans Ams down the interstate for several miles, burying the 120MPH speedo. I was turning 6200 rpms, and the windows started "sucking" open....a gap was forming between the top of the window and the body of the car...scary. When I got home, I grabbed one of those calculators where you input tire size, tranny gear ratios, rear end ratio, engine rpm, ect. and concluded we were running 155 MPH. No way in hell our 4 runners will do that, nor would I WANT to do that:jaw drop:

i will be driving my runner cross country in june, i'll take photo's of the 105-10 mark ;-)
for some reason i was incredibly surprised at how well mine handled at that speed, i maintained it for about an hour only slowing for the corners and accelerating through them like top gear taught me , lol
i know the runner can break 105-108 maybe 110 on the down hill beyond that i will call b.s. as well. I know for a fact i did at least 105 in my runner and that's all i contribute there , no speculation, it actually happened believe it or not i know what i was able to do.
and i had no wobbles or rattles or any crap my pants moments.

then my camry was dangerous
everybody has complaint about push the gas pedal and go at 110 mph, i drove my camry 4cyl at 110 - 115 mph,maybe the aerodimamic shape from camry 99. it felt stable and the revs never be more than in the 4 bar, so the engine wasnt forced, maybe the reasons are clear that 4runner is for offroad more than speed, i just wanted to know, and maybe the air in the 4 runners is more wild and resistive and stop the truck,

I've hit 110 a few times (downhill)- less often than I take it up to 100 or so. It's all about choosing where to speed.
I work in the middle of nowhere in NW Colorado and have gone stretches of close to 100 miles without seeing another car. Never seen a hwy patrol or even a regular cop within 70 miles of my house :cowboy:
Did the deckplate mod 2 weeks ago so I've been really pushing it recently. Wish I had a sports car but I still go around corners yelling "POWER!"
