WHAT ARE THE FAST THAT A 4RUNNER CAN GO ?(higher velocity)

so rims 18 make the car waste more gas than 14,s?

weight for tires of teh same size one being a mud tire and one being an at.

a bigger tire is worse gas mileage because the engine uses more energy to make a longer revolution of the tire. longer rotation around the axle/hub this is why you need to regear also when going to a bigger tire (when you get too big).

as the extra energies end result will be higher rpms and poorer fuel eco.

WELL I always thought that more rotation gives more speed and as result less gas and less energy... so bigger tire gives more rpms and energy? I HAVE IN THE FRONt 265/70/R16 AND WAS THINKING TO PUT 265/75/r16 im still considering this...

I could be wrong but there is a balance in size, too small and there is problems, and too big and there is problems, one way accel is faster and the other way top speed is higher, but i could be wrong. Plus they have to clear the huge brakes.

Big rims or big tires? the reason for the big rims is to clear big brake calibers and big rotors and kinda help the cooling ducts dissipate heat trapped in the rotor. the reason for wide tires is to have as much grip as possible without throwing off the balance or add uneven wear and to extend the life of the tire (it also depends on the compound as well). the thing there with the more rotation of the tire size is only half of it, gearing is the other half.

also race cars aren't worried too much about mpg's and the fact that a tire with lower profile has less flex in it and is far better for cornering at speed, so bigger rims means less tire, sooo the math isn't done just by the size of the tire but also done by the size of the rim as well. like john said it's a balance i'm not going to run the numbers for you but fell free if you'd like, i could be wrong i'm just making an intuitive guess here.

I hit 110 with whatever HP is left of the original 182hp, it had more in it but it took too long, i got bored and got off the highway.

yeah, I was in a Nissan 240SX that was built much better for speed and we started lifting off the road at 115-120 and slowed down.

so 130 and 155 is not possible in a 4runner.

and anyone claiming to have gone that fast in a stock 4runner is lying

With my 4runner 90 -95 MPH is the max I have driven it . It was so smooth that I didn't even noticed I was going that fast. but when I did I did slow down to about 75. The fastest I have driven tho' is around 110-115 with a sedan and got a Big fat ticket of $150 driving through PA...

I have hit 90 to 95 while passing on the highway and then I slow it down. I remember in High School, first thing I would do in my Jaguar was see how fast it would go. I guess I am no longer wanting to see that. My impression of my 3rd gen. 4Runner is that it can obtain 100 MPH, but after that the handling may suffer, I would rather be in a good handling car.

When driving out west, my Wife got to 90 to 95 with our camper and didn't know it. When there are no other cars, trees or anything, your speed can creep up. So, a 4Runner can go pretty well and be stable at high speeds.

By the way, my state (Gerogia) has passed a law, if you get a speeding ticket of 85 MPH or over, your fine is doubled. If you have ever been on I-285, you know that that some drivers in the left lane go that fast or faster.

188 on the r1... but 115 is max on 4th gen its hits a speed limiter. turns about 2900 3000 rpm at that speed can do it all day from fl to boston mass then to ny

Had my 5.0 'Stang LX pegged at the 145mph limiter and it was begging for more.
I surprised the hell out of myself with my '94 Jetta GLX VR6 that also ran right up to the 145mph speed limiter with four people in the car and all four windows down and the sunroof open.
My 4Runner? No way in hell I am testing it's top speed. No point in it and totally irresponsible. These things were not built for speed. :nono:

i have a stock 99 5spd 4x4 with 135,000 miles on it and i have been around 110 a few times on flat ground and i have made a 2 hr trip fallowing a 911 gt3 and some other car doing 90 to 105 most of the time no problems

My guess is that the only way to get a 4Runner to reach 150 MPH is to drive it off a cliff and let it free fall to the ground below. Even so, the terminal velocity would probably be in the 110 - 120 MPH range, by my completely unscientific geusstimate.
