SPARK PLUGS? what kind of spark pugs do you use?. air filter change? rotor? tires what size? my engine is 3.4 automtic its supposed to get better mileage cause is 2wd, but I think im getting 16 miles per galon, maybe i gotta change spark plugs now? give me some advises please and let everyone your own experieces to get better gas $ mileage!!! tnx alot :driving: not complaining just trying to get better

Simple oil change will do you some good. Went from 17 to 18.5mpg combined city and h/w.

Check your tire pressure too..

after changing the intake out, i avg 22 mpg going 70mph with ac on..

Dont upgrade to 33's then! :lol:

do NGK or Bosch 4 prong, either of those platinum plugs should help. clean your air filter or invest 50$ in a drop in K&N...

and change your wires...

It's all about driving.

Those other things will help, but I would say driving is 80% of it. I think second place is tire pressure.

Remove roof rack.

Don't drive like an a-hole.

Clean fuel injectors.

Spark plugs.

New air filter (does not have to be K & N, your computer will compensate within a short period anyways).

STOCK tire size.

If you get noticeably better fuel economy after an oil change, its bad. It means you don't change it nearly frequently enough.

Get gas at a pump that does not add ethanol (if available).

Reduce unnecessary weight in vehicle.

my wheels in the front are 265/70 /r16 and in the rear are 265/75/r16 i can change to get even with the rear so put in fron 265/75 its better?

for gas mileage alone the narrower tire will be better and a k&n is a ait filter brand, let's more air in but also more dirt, check into this a little more i hear 50/50 reviews on the k&n's some say bad some say good, personally i play it safe.

BP stations don't use ethanol I use them every now and then if they're close. If not usually shell or chevron

wow i think u might be right. i always use to pump at cheap gas stations, then i switched to chevron for about 5 full tanks..then 2 weeks ago i pumped full tank at BP and noticed i ran it till 260miles to the tank rather than my regular 230....

Is your 2wd? The friction of the CV axles adds a mpg or so. What's a tank? 18.5 gallons is what mine holds but I don't recall putting more than 16.5 in it ever and that'll give me about 250-270 also on open highway (now that my junk runs good again).

lol ya 2wd and i put in about 16-17 gallons in the runner typically with an avg of 16 mpg. I drive somewhat heavily and have 100+ lbs added from m subs and always have the roof rack on.

Ya im not trying to compare my rig to his but i just thought it was crazy bc 2 of my friends have 3rd gens with 4x4 with miles/tank around mine and bak3rme's rig just seems like its low since its got stock suspension.

You can't say 'I get xxx miles on a tank' without saying how many gallons it took. Comparing miles on a 'tank' is meaningless. MPG, adjusted mileage for tire size, 2WD, engine, driving style, etc all has to be stated before making a comparison.

You're getting right about what you should be expecting from a 4runner. I'm curious what mpg you think you should be getting.

well i know the truck is heavier than cars and even if its a powerfull engine isnt that big(3.4) but its fair enought to do the job, and even if only gives me 15 or 16 mpg I think its good compared with the fun that is drive the 99 4runner, im just curious if I can get better response in mpg, and whit the things a read Iknow that theres no significant changes even with mods, maybe you notice the investment after a couple of months... :fishing:
btw do you think that is better to have more air lbs on the tires than less? or suspension feels harder? and for the one who advise me to but a honda i have one 9 years ago they are reliable, not as toyotas but really good too

I'd say it depends on what you're doing. If all you're doing is using it as a daily driver (as I do right now), you'll be happier $-wise if you put more air in. I don't notice much of a difference if I'm low on air on the road, so I always fill them up to save a few pennies (I'm a poor college kid, what can i say? ). If you find yourself on dirt roads and such, or driving off road, you'll want less pressure AFAIK, I'm sure some serious wheelers will pitch in with their thoughts and experiences.

I see this sentiment a lot, and I don't understand it. What's wrong with wanting an SUV that gets respectable fuel efficiency? I consider it a challenge, and not an automatic downfall of the design. You can get crappy FE in any vehicle, if you drive it improperly. Obviously the main goal of buying the 4Runner was NOT to get high FE...but that doesn't mean you can't work toward making it better. :infidel:
