What are these boxes

Can anyone tell me what these two boxes are under the dash of my 1991? I'm going to remove an old unused alarm siren and have traced what looks like a previous owner added power wire from the battery to the fuse area. I haven't crawled up in there yet and really looked close to see where the wire goes. The previous owner has these two boxes taped together and kind of hanging a bit. I don't know if there still is an actual alarm system on this truck or not.

well according the the FSM they should not be there so i would think they are part of the old security system. youll have to trace the wires coming out of it to tell where they go and what they are meant for get a FSM copy it will help.

I cant really tell from the picture but could the black box be the chime box for the key/door?

I'd try to find the specs and wiring schem on line for the old alarm and see if the boxes match. Those don't look like Toyota stuff to me......

After using a mirror and flashlight I see "toyota" on the backside of the blue box. So it does belong. I'm not sure about the black one yet but I'll get a better idea when I pull the dash for a stereo and CB install. The wiring in both looks like factory wiring harness.

It is so much fun figuring out what a PO did.

The black box looks like the alarm that I had to remove from mine. I had to disconnect the battery and then the alarm wouldn't shut of when I reconnected it due to the previous owner not giving me the remote.

How did you remove it? There are 2 plugs going into the back of the black box. Each plug has a few wires in it. Did you just unplug it?

I just unplugged it. I think it had two plugs and it says viper on it.
Nvm just one plug but no other black boxes in there.

always look for a Toyota stamp of excellence.

That's how I identified two pieces of glass on my 4Runner as being replacements ..
no Toyota stamp.

I noticed that your fuel cap release looks like it's sagging a bit, tightening the nut on the bracket should fix that.

Thanks. I did notice the sag but with so many other things on the to do list it has been ignored. I didn't even bother looking at how to fix it, now I know.
