What can I expect to get on trade-in..

Really wanting to upgrade to a '14 LE from my '13LE.
I'll probably discuss with the dealer when I go in for my next service, but wanted your guys thoughts first. I'm hoping to keep my payment the same or less.
NADA says my '13 is worth in the 34k range on trade, but I've never had luck getting much out of trades in the past lol. I do have the satoshi grille mod, 275/55 Nittos, swapped headlights and fog bezels for Trail parts... No crazy mods but would I be better off putting all factory equip back on? Will they give me LESS for having those few mods ya think? All easy to swap back except the grill.. I owe around $32k last I checked. '13 LE, 4wd, 3rd row.
Just curious- I hate dealing with dealers :)

Prolly should swap to stock. They defiantly won't give you any money for those. Then you could at least resell for a little.

Nada is high usually.

Try autotrader sell your car feature. It's usually right on and tends to agrer with edmunds.

Yeah I know I won't get additional money with mods, just curious how much it'll HURT the value. Probably swapping the tires out anyway so I can put them on the 14. I still have all stock parts except grille obviously.

What are you trying to gain going from a 13 to a 14? It does not seem worth the trouble for the money you will loose. Mods equal zero value at trade in and in some cases reduce value because the majority of people just want a stock vehicle. . When I traded my 2011 Avalon and 2003 4runner in on my 14 4runner the dealer gave me exactly what trade in value was on Edmunds and Kelly blue book even though both vehicles had worn out tires and the 4runner had a few issues. In Arizona when you trade in a vehicle that value is subtracted from the new vehicle price for sales tax purposes so I would have had to sell the vehicles for $2500 more than the price they gave me to just break even from selling them myself.

I'm trying to gain a different color, redwood leather, no 3rd row, a fresh truck since I put almost 40k miles on mine the first year, etc...
That pretty much sums it up.

Do what makes you happy. Don't expect more than you owe and look at being dead even trade for payoff. then look at new price ammoritized over however long and what ever interest rate you qualify for and if that payment works than you are probably gonna be going through with trade. And if they give you more than your payoff that will all be the more positive. but don't go in expecting they give you thousands over what you owe... Good thing is it sounds like your are not upside down in the '13.

I guess I could have added I work for Toyota (Huntsville engine plant). So I got a good deal on the 13! I just really like the 14 better,.
I've lost my butt trading in the last 2 times, but this is my first Yota and I'm hoping to finally break even or get back in the green lol.
Just looked up my payoff and it's around $31k. 40k mile service coming up real soon, guess I'll see what they can do (which we all know means I'll walk out with a 14 lol)

Trade

I am sure you have this info. IMO put it back to pure stock, as from the factory. Go to KBB, NADA and Edmunds, see trade in and selling value. Check AutoTrader for what the exact model is selling for. Look on the dealer lots what they are selling for, do your homework. You may do well selling it yourself. It works both ways, you will pay tax on the difference when trading, or pay it on the buying price if no trade. Deal with 3 or 4 dealers. Why get rid of the '13? Three months after your new ride, you won't know the difference. Wait for the 2016's, your 4Runner will hold up well on the value side, unless you are wanting to unload before you put additional mile on it.

My $.02

I'm in Huntsville as well, and just traded my 2014 Camry Hybrid on a 2014 4Runner Trail about an hour ago. Bill Penney is highly motivated to move a few more cars this month to meet a stretch goal, so sayeth my sales guy. Might want to give it a shot. I put an offer in front of them I didn't figure they would accept, and they did. My Camry only had 5,900 miles!

Jim Kilgore is the guy that sold both cars to me, and did a great job. Steve Brase (sp?) was the sales manager. Good luck!

JPOG, congrats…I don't want to hijack the OP's thread…can you post your deal details here?

If the vehicle is clean I think they will offer $29k but push for what you owe on it.

Like hrod79 said, do what makes you happy but be smart about it and like Leftseat said, do your homework... don't let the dealer control the negotiations. Know the market, know what they are selling for.

Just posting this since the NADA consumer site is high, usually does not take the mileage into account. This should be closer to the value (taking mileage into account).

Print this out and take it with you.

Thanks jpog, and congrats!
Yeah I know it makes more sense to just keep the 13, but it just boils down to me wanting a fresh start with the color combo and options I know I want now. Kinda rushed into this '13 lol. I'm happy with it for the most part, but if I go get an oil change and they agree to give me $30-$31 then I'm going home in a '14 for sure. Hate that ran up so many miles in that first year, just glad I'm finally in a Toyota. It's nice to have something with actual resale value! ;)
