what coil to go with

Hey guys, my GF recently got a 99' 2.7L 2wd 4runner. I got her Bilstein 5100's for all 4 corners for Christmas. But I want to get her new coils to raise the front up to leave the shocks at 0 preload for better ride and achieve about 3" of lift to run 32's. (BTW Camburg UCA's and Total Chaos spindles gussets will be used with this shock/ coil set up) Now im debating what coil to get and why. I know the Tacomas with the 3.4L and 4x4 use 5100's with the toytec/ eibach 620lb coil and like it, but her truck is a 4 banger so i believe this is way to much and will be a stiff and un-friendly ride? So now im looking at OME coils and the ones that have cought my attention are the 882 which is 502lbs- 395mm's tall or the 885 which is 588lbs at -395mm tall. Both much less then Eibachs 620lbs spring

Im thinking the OME 882 because its a moderately lighter coil and used with V6 4x4 tacoma's and since 4runners are heavier then tacoma's i think it will compensate for the 2.7L 2wd?? I know later gen 4runners with V6's and 4wd use the 885 at 588LBS, so if heavier trucks with larger motors and 4wd use it then it must be to heavy for my set up so 500LBS with the 882 would be better? Thoughts on this please

Also they make multiple lenths, but since im trying to achieve 3" of lift, i thought 395mm tall is the best option. Not a shorter spring like the 883- 588in/lbs- 375mm's tall. 10mm shorter= shorter ride height correct or am i thinking wrong?

OME's spring rates and lengths:

880- 502in/lbs- 365mm's tall
881- 502in/lbs- 375mm's tall
882- 502in/lbs- 395mm's tall
883- 588in/lbs- 375mm's tall
884- 588in/lbs- 385mm's tall
885- 588in/lbs- 395mm's tall
886- 656in/lbs- 402mm's tall

thanks in advance guys,
Cole

Funny you just posted about 5100's for your gf's 4runner, I just drove by another black 4runner in Tanglewood the other night after installing my 5100's on my black 4Runner at my dad's house on Saturday (unless hers is the white one I saw last night near the mailboxes? Lol). I've seen your built Tacoma on the street a few times and on TTORA for a couple years, nice truck man :thumb3:

To answer your question, you could use a couple different springs and probably be happy. I used 99 tall springs on the 2nd notch of the Tacoma 5100's and got a fender to center of hub measurement of 23.5", but it may settle a little(I have a v6). A 4cyl should probably use the 881 since the 882 & 883 are meant for V6 and/or extra weight. You could be spot-on about the 882 giving more lift since hers is a 4cyl. I would stay away from the eibach's (3" lift on V6's) and TRD Tundra coils (firm, even for v6's) solely based off the fact you have a 4 cyl.

Now that I re-read your post, why not just take the money spent on 5100's, UCA's, spindle gussets, etc and just get the Solo Motorsports spindles since it's a 2wd. No need for UCA, spindle gussets, etc, and you'd get a 3" lift guaranteed.

hahah no way, her 4runner is the all blacked out one, its gotta big pink RDC sticker on the back. And thanks man.

Okay so the eibach 620lbs spring is a definite no go. But the 882 and 883 are both 600lbs springs? Damn i thought the 882 was like 500 so i thought that would be okay and with the shocks at lowest setting with be okay in conjunction with em. So the 881's are even lighter but shorter so i could just put the preload for the coil on shocks at the middle setting with these lighter coils and achieve the 3" lift but it would ride much better correct?

And i see what ur saying about solo spindles but those damn things are 1000 bucks haha, i want em for my truck! The UCA's and spindle gussets wont lift it, but it'll ride smoother with uni-ball and she plans to beat on the truck a bit and mess around in occotillo and ect so i dont want to have to worry about the balljoint having issues. Pluss the spindle gusset is very cheap and i can just weld it on.

Much appreciated input guys

I was going off of Wheelers' website, which says 881 & 882 are 500#, and 883 are 590#

Old Man Emu Suspension for Toyota Tacoma Trucks- Wheeler's Off-Road, INC

Yeah that's some bad info LOL those 882's are heavyyyy they are a b!tch to compress even on a wall compressor. 881=softest, 883=middle ground, 882=heaviest and tallest because they are designed to handle the most weight. I run the 882's and they are pretty rough on road, though I don't have a winch yet I doubt it would make much difference when I put a winch on. I don't mind them though, they work just fine for me on and off road. But, in regards to the OP, I wouldn't want to run them on a 2wd 4cyl they are way too heavy.

Run the coil for the weight you have now. If you plan to upgrade to larger bumpers one day you can always buy new coils and sell the old ones, they dont really cost too much. 882's on a stock setup can be almost impossible to drive on washboard, and here in CO washboard roads are everywhere!

yeah well i was gunna possibly build a tube bumper for her truck out of 1.75 dom tubbing, no winch tho so in total it'll prob way 40lbs over stock, not enough to make a difference. Her stock coils are shot, so it looks like the 881's are the best way to go and set the preload in the middle on the shock, or have eibach make me some coils which ive done in the past, but IDK if there standard coils will work with stock stuff and bilstein 5100's, and if so idk what length coils to get. i would ideally get 500lbs eibachs as im comfortable with those, but length is the question. Measure the stock coil length and add 3"s to that for 3" of lift??? Cant be that easy haha

Im calling eibach tomorrow to get there 2 cents, i live reasonably close to em as it is.

After a solid week of google, phone calls, and crying in a corner looking for answers, I've decided to revive this thread lol

I was wondering how this job went or if anyone else has done this and had luck getting 3" of lift on a 4cyl 2wd with the 5100 and OME 881's. I've purchased everything except front coils at this point since Wheelers is telling me Eibach coils and toytec says I'll get 3" with OME 880's (which I really have a hard time believing).

Hopefully someone out there has had luck with the 881's on a 4cyl 2wd 3rd gen!
