What color? Entune?

I'm currently on the hunt for a newer 5th gen and am being super persnickety about options and the like as I may have this vehicle for 20 years for all I know.

Two questions for you owners. What are your thoughts on exterior color? Will I regret choosing one without entune in the long run?

It's likely going to be an SR5.

Any opinions are valued.

I absolutely love mine in Blizzard Pearl.

But if I had to do it again I'd probably get the Salsa Red. It's just so pretty.

I have entune w/ navigation and all I have to say is, it does what it's suppose to do but definitely do not let it make or break the deal, it really is nothing spectacular by any means.

As far as color, I am more fond of silver and mag gray, just because it seems to hide dirt well :)

But honestly, I have not seen a 5th gen in a color that I did not like in person, so I really don't think you can go terribly wrong here.

Good luck on the car search!

i have mag grey but my first choice was the salsa red. i was on the same boat as you with entune but i decided against it as my fiance gave me the ok to add a kenwood or pioneer navi next year. for the price you pay for the entune you can get a fully loaded aftermarket nav with more bells and whistles plus you have a solid base to build off if you decide to add amps, speakers, subs, etc.

I went with black for my SR5 and love it... when it's clean. Unless you have a lot of free time, it may not be the best choice though. White SR5s look great and the fact you can't get it in Canada makes me want it more!

No opinions on Entune since I don't have it. I have Mag gray and although I like it, I would choose Salsa Red if I had to do it all over. There seems to be too many Gray, black, silver and white and alot less red.

I love the salsa red color and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Entune is worthless in my opinion though. I love the nav unit with the backup camera, but I wouldn't pay specifically for entune.. I don't know how it works with android, but for an iPhone it's a hassle to use. You have to have it plugged in via USB and the entune app running on the phone in order to share your Internet connection. You need an Internet connection in order to use all of the entune features.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong on this, because I would love to know an easier way to use the service.

As far as I know you only have to have it connected. I think you have the USB connection to keep your phone charged maybe?

I'm pretty sure that if they haven't stopped making 13 T4s, they're close to it.

Whatever colors you're going to get is whatever hasn't been sold, yet.

I feel pretty much the same about "Entune" specifically (the apps and stuff). I never use them. I really love having the back up camera though. Also the navigation has proven to be very accurate for me.

I too love my Blizzard Pearl SR5. Though the blue color on the limited and trail is stunning!

X3^^ Just wish they offered the Trail in Blizzard Pearl :biggrin2: Wanted factory NAV with USB, don't really use Entune so when it's time to pay for service, think I'll pass. One software update in a year and a half isn't what I consider good support, maybe it's me, just say'in.....................

Same needs to be done with Android minus plug in.

Agreed, backup cam is great! Now I can hook up trailer without having to blindly backup, stop, get out to see how close I am, get back in, guesstimate how far I still need to move, only to run into trailer tongue scrapping bumper......D'oh! Now it's easy pessy.........

This is a subject that, in the end, only you will be able to decide. For sure, the Blizzard Pearl and silver will hit dirt, dust and scratches better than the darker colors. For me, I wanted the tan interior and like a contrasting exterior, so black & tan SR5 was an easy choice for me. However, if I was going for a Trail, the choice would be MUCH harder. I love the Salsa TE with Shoreline Blue and Silver close behind. As far as Entune, I have never experienced so that would not even be a concern for me. Lovin' XM though!

[Edit] I just picked up my first smartphone yesterday (with Android), so maybe I'll get to check out what I've been missing. However, if it's a hassle to use in the car, I'll probably retain my current opinion.

I think they are still building them for a little while. I know the final order date was sometime in May maybe the 10th for the 2013 models. The 2014 models won't be around until this fall and the dealer I got mine from had two of them coming yet that were still 2013's that hadn't been built yet.

Okay well I think I can help after using Entune for over a week in 2012 4Runner SR5 4WD while on vacation and now owning a two week old Blizzard White 2013 4Runner SR5 4WD with the standard audio system and the only option being the power sport cloth seats.

The Entune system wasn't bad as car infotainment systems come and go however... (It is nothing like the POS they put in the new Ford products!) It isn't worth $1,500 option on the SR5 models for 2012 or 2013 vehicles. I would have rather had a JBL sound system and six disc CD changer before the Entune system. For less than $200 you can have a good Garmin that can replaced if it dies four years later. The standard audio system with Bluetooth and AM/FM/XM/CD/AUX/USB is just fine for me. The only thing I do miss a little on my truck is the rearview camera that you get with the Entune screen. You can get a camera as an option on an SR5 without Entune but it is then displayed in the mirror and it is a really small image. The standard rear sonar parking assist function just as well in my opinion.

With regards to color. I like Blizzard White or Shoreline Blue but because I was getting an SR5 I went with the white. I am also fond of the tan/black interior vs. the graphite SR5 interior trim. Most SR5 models near me with cloth were stuck with the graphite interior. I am not much of a fan of gray interiors for some reason however the straight black on the Limited doesn't bother me. So when I found an SR5 that was almost equipped exactly how I wanted it less than one hundred miles away I jumped on it. Good luck with your hunt. Honestly you can't go wrong with any 4Runner colors I also like the Salsa Red.

I haven't been able to connect without plugin the iPhone in. Could be user error on my end though.

Anything entune can do, my phone can do it faster/better. The main difference is that the nav doesn't need an Internet connection to function properly with the built in unit.
