What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Super happy with my dual battery install from Overland Power Solutions. Too cool! Love having the options for shore power or solar. Going to use it like crazy on this huge road trip.

First real trip in the books, 380+ miles from Denver into Wyoming & back. I chose to use I-25 for the first trip instead of I-70 just because if anything went wrong I didn't want to have to deal with mountain traffic & steep inclines.

I was able to maintain 70-80mph, dropping down to 3rd on the up-hill sections. 5th was pretty much useless so I stayed in 4 most of the way. Definitely don't rely on the "intelligent" transmission, pop that sucker into "Sport" mode and take a more active part in the drive if you want better performance. All in all we got about 11-12 mpg, which is fine for the fat trailer we had to have.

The trailer itself was designed well, the fresh tank is up front and the gray/black are fairly evenly placed in the middle so the weight distribution didn't change too much from start to finish. It's surprisingly well insulated from the sun and we weren't crying for A/C during the day like we thought we would be. That said, a generator will be the next purchase lol

Overall: The 4Runner probably isn't the best tow-vehicle, but it doesn't suck either. I'm pleasantly surprised that it gets the job done, just not as well as a pickup would. From what I read on here and saw in videos, I thought I'd be rushing out to buy a new pickup and trading the 4Runner just to use the trailer, but I actually think I'm good for a year or two.

In my opinion, the 4Runner's towing limitation is NOT the suspension or brakes, it's the lack of power and gears. Even without a WDH or swaybar (I'm cheap and like to live on the wild-side), it didn't feel squirrely or loose in the hi-wind areas of WY, which is what really had me worried. I just wanted a bit more "oomf" to get around.

And this was a new experience, the long-lines at dump-stations.

I'm going to get a robe & fur hat with a cigar & just stand there saying "shitter's full" next time.

Thanks for the update on your experience. For reference, the trailer I was looking at is the Viking 17FQS. Seems to have the best combo of features; light weight, one slide, big enough for our small family. Sounds like, at the very least, if you pull with the 4R just give yourself some time and don't be in a hurry. I find this is generally a good idea when trailering anyways. Thanks again.

Been working a lot of overtime and paying bills.

Eye is on a lift from Eibach tho. Just waiting for a christmas miracle. Might go rob some children on the way to school for their lunch money.

Idle hands something something...Decided to do something with the badge I held onto. Cost me nothing. Looks decent might paint it black down the road.

Front fender pinch weld seem

Passenger side barely rubs the pinch weld seem, trying to find the best way to go about hammering it flat. From what I read it’s best to hammer to the outside, gives you more space... Debating on doing the whole seem or just the first 5”...

And it only rubs in revers at almost full turn to the right.

What are your wheel and tire specs? Wondering how big I can go before I run into this as well.

I re-worked my rear storage.

Basically I made the right-hand sides taller to accommodate the ladder I use with my RTT. I'll drive it fully loaded for a few days, and if no issues, pull it back out for painting.

Pro Comp series 40 17x9 -6 offset, 285x70r17 Cooper STT PRO’s and I have BORA custom 106mm inner bore to 108mm outer bore hub 1.25” spacers to clear the JBA HD UCA’s.

Whats your set up? Lift? Wheels? Tires? Caster?

Huge mod! I added a 300mm convex broadway rearview mirror, install took somewhere around at least 7 seconds from opening the door. I actually put it on last night and forgot about it and the first time I glanced up at it caught me off guard. The biggest advantage for me is the with attic cargo net I could not see very well out the back with stuff in it (yes I have re-cinched the ties), but now I have gained a lot of the view back. Not really much help with the blind spots though, I still want to do the Rav4 mirror swap for that.

Caster is unknown

And it’s got a 3” front 2” rear lift

Working on an 8x10 foot diy awning. Expandable paint pole attached to the roof along with tarp piles and tied down to stakes.

It wont survive a downpour or high winds but for most days its better than nothing.

Total cost was about 40$. Already had the tarp though

If you're interested in another OEM spare off my 2019, let me know.

Bridgestone Dueller 265/70R17, brand new.

Got myself a matching wheel and tire for a new spare.

Thanks for the offer, I already have a 5th TRD Pro Wheel for the spare, it is on the swingout now. That pic was taken the day I picked it up from the previous owner.
