What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I am planning to mount a solar panel on my rack. From your pictures, I can't tell if you mounted it to the front or rear of the vehicle. I'm wondering if there's any additional noise where the panel is installed?

No wind noise. I mounted it towards the front of the vehicle. Bolted it from underneath and also from the back with some brackets I made.

If you're familiar/comfortable with disassembling the interior, the write up is pretty much "remove the center console cubby and mount the charge pad to the bottom then splice into the power for the cigarette lighter."

If you're not, there's several threads that cover how to do that. I didn't take any pictures of the console disassembly, so getting into more detail would be hard to elucidate, sorry.

Edit: I'm gonna check out more fast charge pads and see if there's something worth ordering to upgrade mine and then I'll be able to do a proper write-up

Second edit: The pad I bought (link below) *does* do fast charging. For the last couple weeks, I've rarely been in the car long enough to see it do it's magic and I don't have it set up to charge with the ignition off. So maybe it IS fast charging, lol.

Thursday morning, July 25th, I left for my annual Nevada & Mojave camping trip. Came home late in the day on Tuesday, July 30th. Had a great time, visited lots of interesting old mines, mining camps, and ghost towns. Saw some wildlife too -- wild horses, antelope, deer, rattlesnake, horned lizard, etc. And I shot over 238 gigabytes of photos and videos! So obviously, it's going to take me a while to sort through everything and get stuff edited and posted.

I got my Husky Liners in, blacked out my chrome emblems, and added some yellow Lamin-X to my fog lights. I can’t decide if I like the yellow or not though.

installed some in channel rain guards, she's dirty due to lots of rain we've had the past few days .. weathertech floormats, dark tint and this coming week TRD wheels in black and 5100s (.85 front lift only) and alignment, still debating if I will ditch the factory tires now or wait till fall to slap on some ATs

What did I do today? Well, drove around in our small town in my recently purchased 4Runner SR5. Since the region is currently infested with Mormon crickets, you can’t drive down the street without running over them (they are actually a species of katydid - Mormon cricket - Wikipedia). They sound like bubble wrap popping when run over. But nothing wasted, others coming behind greedily gobble up the dead.

Haven’t washed mine in weeks

She's 365 days old today, one year old on the dot. We picked her up with 1 mile on the ODO on 8/3/2018 and as I parked her in the driveway tonight she sat at 24,799 miles. To some that kind of mileage might seem a tad extreme and to others that's probably child's play, but for us that's pretty much the norm for our vehicles. Who knows what she'll acquire in the next 12 months or if she'll even stick around long enough to see, but I have to say that these Toyota's are boringly reliable.

Power is stored in a 300 watt rechargable battery pack. Running a fridge I picked up on Amazon. Actually everything came from Amazon.

Here is the progress to date:

That was mostly done by my wife and Citrastrip. She put on two coats of the paint stripper and then we let it marinate overnight under a tarp (to keep the gel from drying out prematurely).

Now it's up to me to:

1. finish stripping skid plate
2. de-rust skid plate
3. grind down burrs / sharp edges
4. grind out D/S 10mm hole a little wider for bolt clearance!
5. acetone skid plate
6. prime skid plate
7. paint skid plate
8. re-mount skid plate

All of the above will be complete by Wednesday night because I'm taking the truck to Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival up in Huntingdon, PA on Thursday.

Thanks! Yep, I did use Plasti Dip on everything but the grill emblem.

For the grill emblem (in my hand) I tried a different product called Rust-Oleum Peel Coat High Gloss Black. IMO, the Rust-Oleum went on much smoother than the Plasti Dip. I wouldn’t consider it “high gloss,” but it looks great!
