Back at work now, but had a fun, solo 2wk trip out West. Made lots of stops and saw a Formula 1 race in Vegas. Decided it's time to build a drawer system, as there was lots of chaos in the cargo area with all the gear.

Went to Caprock Canyons and Palo Duro Canyon in TX; Roswell, Bottomless Lakes State Park, and Carlsbad Caverns in NM; Petrified Forest, Meteor Impact Site, and Grand Canyon in AZ; then Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and Valley of Fire State Park in NV.

I've had my IMS lift on for almost 60K miles now. Honestly, it's how 4Runners should've come from the factory. With the front sway bar removed, I have less body roll than the factory suspension. The nosediving has also been tamed. If you could talk to my dad from my recent trip out to Vegas, he'd tell you that doing 45mph down a washboard road (filled with potholes and spots of loose sand) was better than his Jeep could ever do. The IMS system is very confidence inspiring and until you get into something very extreme, it always feels planted and sure footed.

Driver’s seat was worn and had a tear in the seat bottom. Found a salvage seat with good bottom, but blown air bag in seat back. Swapped existing seatback with warmer to the salvage seat bottom after swapping the old seat warmer to salvage seat bottom. If you understand all that, I got an improved seat for my complaining wife for $125 and a bit of work.

Added a Garmin Mini 3 dashcam. Love how basic and small it is.

Ran the cable up the rear view mirror "channel" into the head liner, down the drivers side a-pillar, behind the door gasket and kick panel, under the door sill, out over (under the rear passengers floor mat) to the 12 v outlet. Only on when vehicle is running.

Haven't downloaded any files yet to really check the video quality in detail, but via bluetooth on my phone looked decent.

Installed 2 pairs of BumperPlugs (BumperPlugs for Toyota) to fill the front license plate holes that the original dealer drilled in the front bumper (before my ownership). My state does not require front license plates. BumperPlugs.com has perfect color matches for all of our 4Runners. Mine are Attitude Black Metalic (218). Very happy with them. They are a little expensive for what they are, but I got them as an XMas gift from a family member.

Just got a new to us '17 TRD Premium in the Barcelone Red Metallic with everything except the subwoofer audio.

Sunroof, solid steps, privacy shade, bed net, vinyl floor & bed liners, etc.

Paid $29.2k, 67k miles, one owner, clean carfax.

First Toyota, moving from a lifetime with GM - did a lot of work to customize my 2005 GMC Canyon and then made the mistake of getting a 2017 CTS with the shit 8 speed and will never buy a gm again.

Current driveway has my '05 Canyon (bought new 7/04), an '09 Envoy (new 7/09) the '17 CTS (used, 22k miles 4/18) and now the '17 4Runner.

TODAY -
1) Activated XM at $5.99/mo for a year
2) I lubed the roof rails today and realized there's no rubber stoppers at the front of the truck, only the back.

Anyone know where to get new ones to go in the front? Plastic cap popped off when I was moving the rails because there's no front stopper.

I already plan to swap the gear lube to 75w90 severe gear in the diffs and xfer case - can i use dex vi in the power steering or do I need to find an old dex III equivalent?

Did an oil change on the 2014 at just shy of 370K. Had run Valvoline Restore & Protect 0w20 for 5K miles. Lot of internet hype on this oil on how it cleans up deposits on pistons and rings. There are videos out there where people are worried over clogged oil filters. Well, the oil and filter looked the same as any other oil change. Either the hype is over the top, or our engine is minty clean.

I think it's a combination of both. 80% proper maintenance and 20% over hype

I think it's the same deal with changing the PCV valve and cleaning the MAF sensor - people say those are must do's but I'm not convinced. I cleaned my MAF for the first time at about 150k miles 4 years ago and it looked brand new. I changed my PCV value at almost 170k miles and again it looked and sounded brand new - still replaced it anyway since I had a new part. but I am diligent with my maintenance so it doesn't surprise me - I don't run oiled engine air filters though , just standard OEM.

ya I agree throttle body cleaning is something worth doing. I've done that twice for my 4runner but just for good order. never had an issue. but then again I don't have 350K miles on my vehicle . on the way to 180K and going strong

Some Friday night garage time.

After recently adding the Garmin Mini 3 to the front I got one for the rear.
Routed the cable along head liner, down rear pillar by jack storage compartment, over wheel well to under the rear door sill, under rear floor mat to 12v on back of center console. Garmin's 12v adaptor can take two cables.

Looks decent, will road test today. Sits back a tad from the window bc I used the retainer clip, no adaptor, seemed to be the cleanest install. Used the clip closer to passengers side vs center one so that the camera sits in the area where the wiper cleans.

Installed a Body Armor 4x4 rear bumper on saturday. Also installed the hood vinyl decal to reduce that annoying glare from the sun. Rear end only dropped 1/2 inch despite the bumper weighing like 160lbs. Pretty stoked with the new look and the added functionality!

Installed the smallest, lightest interior shelf unit I think I've seen in a 4R.

Seems ridiculous but I've been always wanting to add a shelf in this spot. Summer, the fridge/cooler lives on that side of the cargo area and I'm always looking for a little extra space (but keep minimal and open).

Gave our 2021 TRD Off Road Premium, Max, a nice foam bath. Been a few months and had a few rain storms here and there. Looks like we're in for more nice, sunny but chilly weather for a bit. Took the time to give it a good deep clean on the wheels and a ceramic detail spray.

I used Adams Wheel and Tire Cleaner and that works REALLY well! I've been using Chemical Guys W&T cleaner and it never cleaned it that good. Always left some shmutz behind.

Coming up on 4 years of ownership on 2/7/2025 with a little bit less than 25k miles.
